About us

As you look through our current job openings, remember: the grass is greener at the City of Burlington. With approximately 890 full-time and 600 part-time employees, we focus on teamwork, collaboration and investing in our co-workers. It’s no wonder our employee turnover rate is less than 7 per cent (that’s good). The City of Burlington is an award winning city, filled with award winning staff. In fact, we put the “greater” in the GTA. We surveyed our staff and the top reasons why they chose to work/stay with the City of Burlington are the location/commute, the people, benefits and pension. Burlington is located between three major highways, has three GO train stations, public transit, bike paths and change and shower facilities at all main working locations. As public servants, our job is to provide excellent public service and good value for taxes. Our staff know this and are proud of the work they do, because as Canada’s best mid-sized city, we’re second to none. Our staff are dedicated, caring, professional and award winning. We have excellent benefits and pension as well as flexible work arrangements such as work from home, job sharing/rotations and a compressed work week. If you want to join a forward-thinking organization, apply today. Come for the job, stay for the career. We’ve got it all.

  • What an honour it is to recognize Victoria Mboko with a Key to the City today. Victoria, you make #BurlON and all of Canada unbelievably proud. • Today we raised the flag at #BurlOn City Hall to recognize National Housing Day. National Housing Day was officially recognized by the Government of Canada in 2000 as a day to recognize the ongoing efforts to improve access to safe and affordable housing across the country. The City of Burlington approved its Housing Strategy in 2022, establishing a road map to deliver on the City's vision for housing focusing on partnership and advocacy. It also as identifies the direct actions that the City can take to increase housing options and opportunities for residents of Burlington. We thank Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin for their participation in today’s event.

  • Earlier this month, the City of Burlington came together to recognize the dedication and outstanding contributions of our employees at the very first RISE event – Recognition in Service and Excellence. At the ceremony, we honoured staff marking a career milestone with the City, including one remarkable employee celebrating 50 years of service! We also announced the winners of our BRAVOS awards. Nearly 100 employees were nominated by their colleagues across six categories for their achievements in making Burlington a better place. Congratulations to all of our Service Award recipients, BRAVOS nominees and winners, and our amazing team at the City who attended to cheer on their colleagues.

  • We’re thrilled to have been a part of the ‘Threads of Tradition’ workshop during this year’s Culture Days — recipient of the Spotlight Award for Best Collaborative Program! In a region-wide collaboration, the Municipalities of Halton, the Art Gallery of Burlington and Halton Region Heritage Services hosted artist Rafia Shafiq for an immersive Phulkari embroidery workshop. Participants learned traditional motifs and stitched their own take-home creations, guided by Rafia, founder of Dhaga Art and a passionate advocate for preserving this vibrant textile tradition. • Inclusion starts with connection. That’s why we’re inviting local organizations to join Burlington’s Accessible Sport and Art Council, a group dedicated to creating and supporting programs for people of all abilities.
