Mental Health Is Health

About us

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital. CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion to help transform the lives of people affected by mental health and addiction issues. As a teaching hospital, CAMH provides education, training, internships and residencies for students. People training to work in the health care field, including psychiatrists, psychologists, pharmacists, nurses, occupational therapists, social workers and laboratory technologists, come to CAMH for practical experience. We believe that Mental Health is Health, and through our work we are building a movement for social change: raising awareness, challenging prejudice, and advocating for public policies that support mental health. Please note that our social media channels are not monitored 24/7. If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide, you are deserving of help - visit www.camh.ca/gethelp for more information. If you feel safe in the moment, follow up with your family physician or care team. If you require immediate, in-person emergency care, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency department.

Winter may bring longer nights, but our community brings the light. ✨ Staff, patients, and community members gathered at TD Commons for our annual Gifts of Light tree-lighting ceremony to celebrate the start of the holiday season—with musical and artistic performances, seasonal treats, and plenty of shared warmth. 🎄

🐾 Meet Max!🐾 Max is loving, independent, and cheerful. He has a unique way of communicating what he wants — by placing his chin on the couch, the car window, or even his person’s lap. His gentle persistence never fails to make people smile. Through CAMH’s Pet Therapy Program, Max has touched countless lives. Clients who once stayed in their rooms now come out when Max visits. One gentleman with Alzheimer’s, who rarely interacted at first, drew a picture of Max after a few visits and now chats with him and his volunteer each time they arrive. Others say Max helps calm their anxiety and gives them something to look forward to. “Dogs don’t judge, and they love without restrictions. Max has something so special that makes people stop in the street just to meet him. To see him bring that same joy to patients, even for a few seconds, is incredible.” Stories like Max’s are why he is featured in our 2026 CAMH Pet Therapy Calendar. 🐶💜 📅 Available September 29 – December 15 (while supplies last) 💲 $20 + HST (includes a free small coffee) 📍 Purchase at Out of This World Café locations: 100 Stokes St | 1051 Queen St | 250 College St #MentalHealthIsHealth #PetTherapy #MeetTheDogsWhoHeal

Clothing is more than fabric and stitches — it’s about feeling. 👗🤵 That's why, tucked away on our Queen Street campus, Suits Me Fine offers new and gently used clothing to CAMH patients and proudly hosts an annual fashion show alongside fashion icon Jeanne Beker. This year, the show was held on November 13 and featured nearly 30 CAMH patients who volunteered as models. MORE: https://lnkd.in/g7TsdRnx

Yesterday, together with some of our community partners, MHP gathered at Queen’s Park to shine a light on the urgent need for supportive housing for people living with mental illness and substance use conditions. 21 delegates attended 18 meetings with government leaders, opposition critics, policy advisors and ministry officials to share how supportive housing is the most effective solution to address prolonged hospital stays — driven by ALC backlogs — that can diminish recovery, tie up scarce resources, and place immense strain on families and care teams. We were honoured to receive formal remarks from the Hon. Vijay Thanigasalam, Associate Minister of Mental Health & Addictions, at our lunch reception. Additional greetings were shared by MPP Alexa Gilmour, NDP Critic, Ontario Autism Program; MPP Lee Fairclough, Liberal Party Critic for Addictions, Homelessness, Hospitals and Mental Health; and MPP Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Green Party. Thank you to our delegates, community partners Ottawa Salus, LOFT Community Services, Indwell, Reena and Surrey Place, elected officials and ministry officials for participating and engaging in the day and these vital conversations. For a comprehensive recap of the day, please read our article: https://lnkd.in/g24zbhAt

Big weekend ahead for sports fans — #NFL, #NBA, #NHL AND the kickoff of the #PWHL season! 🏈🏀🏒 But for some, the joy of the games is overshadowed by pressure to win their bets, as sports #betting and problem #gambling are both on the rise. Dr. Nigel Turner joined The Social to discuss the changing landscape of sports gambling and the impact of sports betting on youth. Catch the full conversation: https://lnkd.in/gfj3ZvGJ
