The Decline of Psychological Safety at Work As AI transforms how we work, the latest Workplace Culture Signals Report (see link below) shows a troubling trend, psychological safety is cracking. 📉 Empathy, respect, and open dialogue are all declining. 💬 Hesitation to speak up is rising. When employees don’t feel safe to share ideas or challenge decisions, innovation dies quietly. When empathy fades, burnout spreads. And when leaders fail to address it, high performers leave, seeking cultures that value trust and well-being. Psychological safety isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s the foundation of agility, creativity, and retention. Let’s build workplaces where people feel safe to speak up, collaborate across differences, and lead with empathy. Because silence doesn’t mean things are fine, it means people stopped believing it’s worth trying. #WorkplaceCulture #PsychologicalSafety #Leadership #Burnout #Innovation #Retention #EmployeeExperience

The way we work has changed significantly over the past five years - but the way many people think about performance hasn’t. Between hybrid work, AI disruption, rising burnout, and a multi-generational workforce managing conflicting expectations, we're now operating in very different territory. Yet I still see organisations applying outdated approaches to performance and culture, despite what the research tells us about what actually works. This year I shifted the focus of my work to "Performance Reimagined" - helping teams, leaders and organisations evolve to achieve excellence, AND sustain wellbeing, culture and connection for their people. In this short video, I share an overview of this work and solutions to shape performance that works for today, and builds capacity for what's next. If you've recently followed me, welcome - I'm glad you're here. If we've been connected for a while, thank you for continuing to be part of this journey. Find out more at dradamfraser.com

I came across this interesting article on @HRDAustralia this week, and I know we’re all feeling it — this “messy middle” of work. Between hybrid demands, shifting skills, and AI reshaping everything we thought we knew, leading people today requires more than just strategy — it requires adaptability, empathy, and clarity. This HRD article really hits home on what it takes to succeed in these uncertain times: the ability to adapt, relearn, and evolve faster than the change itself. What I’ve realised is that we haven’t changed much since the pandemic — it’s still not the tech that’s tripping us up… It’s the people part. I explore this deeply in Oh SHI(F)T! Now What? — because in this AI era, where communication, collaboration, and community matter more than ever, we need to refocus on the human side of leadership. It’s not about keeping up with technology — it’s about bringing people along with it. If you’ve ever felt like you’re leading through fog, this is your reminder: You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to stay curious, connected, and courageous enough to shift — …and perhaps, to read Oh SHI(F)T! As AI solutions are introduced, beware of implementing a culture of "ongoing, never-ending change" that is unsustainable and leads to burnout, change fatigue, and employee turnover. This happens because constant change creates chronic stress, requires constant adaptation without adequate resources, and can diminish employees' sense of control and well-being. Organizations must adopt a strategic approach to change, manage the pace of transitions, and prioritize employee resilience to avoid these negative outcomes. #technology #innovation #culture #ai

🤯 Does workplace activity monitoring really boost productivity? 😱 While oversight is old news, AI has made surveillance infinitely more efficient - and that efficiency is driving an unhealthy addiction to data. 💻 The challenge isn't just data privacy. It's the total erosion of psychological safety when tools track keystrokes, email sentiment, and micro-activities instead of business impact. Leaders gain more data but often lose trust, which leads to a self-fulfilling prophecy: employees feel the mistrust and disengage. 📉 When teams are constantly performing for an algorithm, the space for genuine innovation and risk-taking disappears. This downward spiral ultimately creates a compliant, but low-performing organization. 💡 The necessary pivot is replacing pure input monitoring. Start with the structured focus of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to immediately measure impact over activity. Then, evolve to the BOKaRy (Behaviors, Objectives, Key Results) framework. BOKaRy takes the critical next step by deliberately incorporating the positive behaviors that drive success. 📈 This comprehensive alignment of objectives, measurable key results, and desired behaviors prioritizes trust over tracking, driving truly impactful performance, and fundamentally transforming organizational culture. 🎯 One lesson you can apply today: Review your AI-driven "safety" metrics. If they measure effort (inputs) instead of impact (outcomes), you are driving fear and mistrust, not measuring performance and productivity. 💬 What's one monitoring practice your company needs to rethink? Share your thoughts below! 👇 #WorkplaceSurveillance #OKRs #FutureofWork #WorkplaceEthics #PsychologicalSafety #Leadership #HRTech #CEOs #CXOs
