STEM Education - a free youth outreach program (K-12) from the University Health Network (UHN).
About us
UHN STEM Pathways is a Toronto-based outreach program that gives students the opportunity to learn about and explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) with leaders in the field. Students from K-12 can participate in interactive tours, scientist panels, hands-on workshops, classroom visits, and more! These opportunities are at no-charge to participants (or schools) and aim to instill a curiosity and love of STEM.

Some highlights from visits with high school co-op students placed at the University Health Network this term! #TeamUHN collaborates with the Toronto District School Board each year to provide placements across our hospitals and labs, an important commitment as Canada's largest teaching hospital network. As part of this, each term our team organize on-site sessions for co-op students to further explore career pathways in #STEM. Check out some photos from our visits to the KITE Research Institute and Princess Margaret Genomics Centre (PMGC) below.

UHN STEM Pathways reposted this
Today, on Transgender Day of Remembrance, we honour the memory of transgender, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse individuals whose lives have been lost to acts of anti-transgender violence. This day calls for reflection, learning, and action to address systemic inequities and barriers faced by trans and gender-diverse communities. It is an opportunity to deepen understanding, reaffirm commitment to gender-affirming and trauma-informed care, and strengthen harm-reduction practices that promote safety, dignity, and inclusion for patients served and all members of TeamUHN.

Another lovely Friday PA Day exploring Research at UHN! We enjoyed our morning meeting students from The MINA Project, who participated in a workshop led by graduate researchers from the Howe and Fish Labs. Students toured their lab and learned about endothelial cells, and why they are important in the context of cardiovascular disease research. In the afternoon, we invited students who applied to our PA Day at UHN Program to visit the Advanced Optical Microscopy Facility, a cutting-edge core research facility. Students learned how their microscopes are crucial to research developments and even had the chance to test them out! Graduate researchers from the Latner Thoracic Research Labs also facilitated a workshop on lung cancer and clinical considerations. It was a fascinating day exploring #STEM!

Some highlights from recent classroom visits! Our outreach team loves visiting local schools and community centres to teach students about various topics in #STEM and share what they do at the University Health Network. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the community and thank all the educators who welcome us into their classrooms.

Happy #WorldScienceDay - UHN's annual Research Report is now live - check it out! #DiscoveryToImpact #RR25
Driving Discovery. Delivering Impact. 🎯 At University Health Network, discovery is driven by purpose—and the impact is real, measurable, and growing. In celebration of #WorldScienceDay, we are launching our annual research report, spotlighting a year of bold ideas, transformative science, and collaborative action. Driving Discovery, Delivering Impact is more than a theme. It is a story of science that listens. That partners. That delivers. We are proud to share this journey with our partners—the University of Toronto, all levels of government, industry leaders, non-profits, and our foundations. Our team had the pleasure of once again supporting the University Health Network’s Take Our Kids to Work day. We helped welcome fifty grade 9 students to the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, where we facilitated tours of KITE Research Institute’s simulation labs and a workshop on cognitive testing, something that many Toronto Rehab staff and KITE researchers have experience with. We know the high school period is where many students begin to truly develop their academic and career goals and are happy to be a part of the process – wishing the students much success in their future endeavours!

Congratulations to our October Volunteer of the Month - Ash Hagerman! Ash has been instrumental to our outreach program over the years - they've engaged students through classroom visits, lab tours and even developed an interactive workshop on the immune system to communicate their work in this field. We are grateful for their long-time involvement and support of outreach! 💙 https://lnkd.in/gyBGayuY

Happy to spend another PA Day with high school students visiting the University Health Network. These passionate students applied to our ‘PA Day at UHN’ program to spend their day off from school exploring their #STEM interests. It was a lovely morning visiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre’s Guided Therapeutics (GTx) research facility and participating in a workshop on chromatography, a vital lab technique. The GTx team also facilitated demonstrations to highlight their work developing image-guided technologies for cancer care and research.
