Earlier this year, Aaron, a youth at Covenant House Toronto, was matched with Ben through our Mentorship Program. The two connected instantly. Aaron hopes to become an aircraft maintenance engineer, just like Ben. As his mentor, Ben has been supporting him in working towards this goal. They meet monthly to catch up, share experiences, and continue building a meaningful bond. Recently, Aaron and Ben attended their first Toronto Raptors game together — joined by another mentee. The Raptors won, making Aaron’s first game an unforgettable one, thanks to the generous donor who made this experience possible. Mentorship is a rewarding experience. Youth like Aaron get guidance and encouragement, while mentors like Ben gain new perspectives and lasting friendships. 💙 You can make a difference. About us
Covenant House helps youth ignite their potential and reclaim their lives. As Canada’s largest agency serving youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk, we offer the widest range of 24-7 services to more than 300 young people each day. As a national leader, we educate and advocate for long-term change to improve the lives of vulnerable youth. This includes influencing public policy, leading awareness and prevention programs and continually building and sharing our knowledge. As a learning organization, we strive for excellence and programs with impact. More than a place to stay, we provide life-changing care with unconditional love and respect. We meet youth’s immediate needs and then we work together to achieve their future goals. We offer housing options, health and well-being support, training and skill development, and ongoing care once youth move into the community. Thanks to our donors, who contribute almost 80 per cent of our $33-million annual operating budget, we are able to deliver these comprehensive programs and services. Since 1982, Covenant House has supported more than 100,000 young people.

Every young person’s life experience and path to Covenant House is unique. When Joy arrived at Covenant House, she had left an unstable home and was feeling vulnerable, and unsure of what to expect. The day after she arrived happened to be her birthday — she was so caught up in everything that was happening, that she forgot, but our team didn’t. That small gesture reminded her that she mattered. Today, Joy is thriving. She is living independently in the community, studying advertising, and working toward her goals. She credits her progress to the support she received from Covenant House. With your help, we can break the cycle of youth homelessness and help more young people like Joy. “We really believe that there are solutions for youth homelessness,” said Mark Aston, CEO of Covenant House Toronto, during his keynote address at last night’s Sleep Out: Executive Edition. “Evidence shows that when youth receive the right supports at the right time, outcomes improve significantly. This is why we offer on-site healthcare, counselling services, educational and employment resources, and skill development opportunities at Covenant House.” Thank you to all the community leaders and donors for your time and generosity. Your support allows us to offer these programs and services that break the cycle of homelessness and promote stability, so that young people experiencing homelessness can build their path forward away from this experience. Youth homelessness is a growing crisis in Toronto with more than 1,500 16–24-year-olds experiencing homelessness on any given night in Toronto. The true number is likely much higher due to hidden homelessness, where youth stay in temporary or unsafe spaces instead of shelters. Tomorrow is #NationalHousingDay, a time to recognize that safe, affordable housing is essential for everyone. With inflation and soaring rents, daily living has become more challenging than ever in communities near and far. Young people are especially vulnerable to these circumstances. Often, it’s because they’re in the early stages of their careers, earning lower wages, juggling school costs, and with fewer savings to fall back on — challenges tied to their age and circumstances, not individual failings. For youth experiencing homelessness, a stable home is the foundation for every next step. At Covenant House, our team is here 24/7, offering programs and services that help young people move forward and break the cycle of homelessness. Tomorrow marks Transgender Day of Remembrance. This day commemorates the trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit people, and gender-diverse community members we have lost this year to transphobic violence. It’s also a day to recognize members of the trans community who continue to work for justice and inclusion. Covenant House Toronto is a safe and welcoming space for all young people who show up at our doors. Our team sees firsthand the challenges that transgender youth experience and they’re here 24/7 to provide a safe and supportive space for youth to heal and build their stable path forward. #TransDayOfRemembrance #TDOR #TransRightsAreHumanRights #TransVisibility #CovenantHouseTO
