When I first attended New York Comic Con at the age of 14, I never thought that just over a decade later I’d be up on the panel stage. Earlier this month, I represented Penguin Random House Audio on PRH’s Buzzy Books panel. Alongside colleagues from across the company, I discussed some of the most exciting titles to release this year—from audio originals like Jason Reynolds’s SOUNDTRACK to our partnership with DC Comics (an adaptation of Mark Waid and Alex Ross’s KINGDOM COME) and beyond. Anyone who knows me knows how much all forms of storytelling matter to me. I was truly honored to spend my time sharing that passion with other readers (and listeners)—and I’m sure 14-year-old Brian would think it was pretty cool too. It's time to reimagine the essentials of courageous leadership. Over the past six years, the Dare to Lead global community of coaches and facilitators has taken more than 150,000 leaders in forty-five countries through our Dare to Lead courage-building work. In this new book, I share the lessons from these experiences, my personal reflections, poetry that captures the complexity of this moment in time, and wisdom from other leadership thinkers. My hope is that this book can serve as a playbook for everyone, from senior leaders developing and executing complex strategies to GenZers entering and navigating turbulent work environments. In the midst of deep uncertainty and the overwhelm of experiencing bluster, hubris, and even cruelty being framed as an increasingly acceptable form of leading, this book is about actionable and tactical insights that make explicit the mindsets and skill sets we need to reclaim our focus and power growth while leading from a place of connection, discipline, and accountability. In terms of AI, I hear a lot of experts trying to soothe people’s anxiety about the pace of technological change by offering platitudes like, What makes us human will ensure our relevance. This is dangerous simply because, right now, we’re not especially good at what makes us human. We’re not hardwired for this level of uncertainty, and many of us feel as if the constant need to self-protect is driving the humanity right out of us. This is why organizational transformation today must foster deep connection, deep thinking, and deep collaboration. We need the courage to lead people in a way that honors and protects the wisdom of the human spirit. Individuals and organizations are building new muscles. Finding our strong ground — that athletic stance — is the only thing that can provide both unwavering stability in a maelstrom of uncertainty and a platform for the fast, explosive change that the world is demanding. Join us for a big-ass virtual book club gathering on October 14, 2025. Ticket includes a copy of the book from one of the independent bookstores participating in the event. You can learn more about the event here. https://lnkd.in/g8aa8FCM Stay awkward, brave, and kind. BB

Big News! My first audiobook for Penguin Random House Audio is now on-sale! Narrating Human History on Drugs was an absolute joy. My eternal thanks and gratitude to Sam Kelly, the crew at John Marshall Media, the team at Penguin Random House Audio and to Dan Zitt, who told me many years back that I could do this thing called narration. This book will change the way you look at many historical figures throughout human history, exploring their personalities (varied), successes (many), failures (also many), and of course, their vices (hence the book!).
