Yesterday was a big day for LinkedIn London’s Social Impact team as we hosted our AI Skilling Spotlight, aimed at exploring the new world of work and empowering career starters that may be overcoming additional barriers. We brought together government representatives, nonprofits, academics, and business leaders to transform innovative ideas into actionable solutions, ensuring young people gain the skills, connections, and opportunities they need. Highlights from the event included: - Skills England’s AI Skills Report presentation by Nisreen Ameen and Frank Bowley. - Insights on London’s digital future from Luke Marshall-Waterfield of the Greater London Authority. - An inspiring keynote on human expertise delivered by Ole Teutloff from the Microsoft AI Institute/Oxford Internet Institute. Panels featured discussions such as: - “Young people & jobs of tomorrow,” which included Kester Brewin, Charles Eales, Anna Round, and Irene Biundo, emphasizing the necessity of inclusive AI literacy from education through early careers. - “Corporate × Nonprofit AI Skilling Partnerships,” showcasing effective cross-sector collaboration with Kathryn Baddeley, Will Akerman, Sareena Bains, and Andrew Law. We welcomed attendees from Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Skills England, Islington Council, Greater London Authority, corporates, and nonprofits. In the afternoon, over 70 young people from Movement to Work partners participated in exploring how AI can assist them in securing jobs. This included training on Gen AI and LinkedIn with mini mentoring sessions and headshots too. I want to say a massive thank you to both Jo Johnstone and our very own Arron Dowdall for delivering the training to a packed room of young people, no easy feat! I'm a big supporter of networking and meaningful conversations. They help you grow not just professionally, but personally too. You see the best way to pitch yourself, learn from others and know how to navigate your career happens through networking. Initially it seems like a lot of pressure, but trust me it gets easier with time. I remember my Vice President at the previous org I worked at told me, "If you're spending Rs. 500 on a cab to the event, make sure you talk to atleast 5 people to get your worth from the event." And that's how I started driving these conversations at events. I would equate it to the amount I'm investing and ensuring I atleast talk to the minimum number of people before I grab lunch and exit. I know it sounds silly initially, but trust me it REALLY helps (especially if you're a little under-confident). I am no networking expert, but after attending hundereds of events I can promise you a lot of us feel overwhelmed. So next time, just go say hi to 5 people and do the awkward small talk. Who knows where you might end up from there? That's what these three days were about! I spent my time at the LinkedIn Lawns at Charcha in New Delhi. Not just the conversations I had, but I got to meet the phenomenal social impact team at LinkedIn. They ensure I had the BEST time ever, so a BIG THANK YOU to them for pulling this off. India, thank you 🇮🇳 . Leaving #Charcha energised by what’s possible when government, business, and civil society unite: unlocking inclusive growth and opportunity. Over three days, our team partnered with the Charcha community to turn conversations on livelihoods and skills into action: ➡️ Conversations that Matter. Dialogues with leaders across sectors on how AI + skills can open doors for SMBs, youth, and underserved talent. ➡️ On‑ground experiences that connect. Activations that helped attendees act now, from learning paths to networking prompts that sparked new collaborations on the spot. ➡️ Panels that moved the agenda forward. Exploring growth beyond metros, boosting entrepreneurship with new tools, and ideas to support tier 2 and tier 3 cities thrive. ➡️ Community, not just content. Partners, creators, policymakers, and practitioners swapping ideas, sharing data, and committing to concrete next steps together. At LinkedIn, we believe opportunity is built through skills and connections, and Charcha showed that in action. Grateful to the leaders who invested their time and energy to be in the room and lend their voice, including Jessica, Kumaresh, Ruchee, Aditi, and many others. Your perspectives turned ideas into action. It also showed what it means to walk the talk: putting our vision of economic opportunity for EVERY member at the heart of how LinkedIn builds and grows. These days, AI is low-key every third word that comes out of my mouth—especially working in Silicon Valley, lol. But here’s what’s wild: AI literacy has doubled in just one year. That’s not just a stat—it’s a signal. A signal that the future of work is already here, and we’ve got to make sure everyone gets a seat at the table. Because let’s be real: not everyone starts from the same place. And if we’re not intentional, the AI revolution could deepen the divides we’re already fighting to close. That’s why I’m back with the mic for another episode of #ConversationsThatMatter 🎤 In this clip, we’re talking about how leaders can help their organizations build AI literacy—not just by investing in tools, but by investing in people. That means creating space for learning, offering grace for the beginners, and making sure the folks closest to the work aren’t left out of the conversation.
