Oct 23 - Scorecards, webinars, infrastructure, Housing Delivery Vehicle Toolkit and more...

Welcome to the Local Partnerships October monthly roundup e-newsletter.

Three big announcements affecting different areas of the local government sector were revealed in October.

The Council Climate Action Scorecards were launched by Climate Emergency UK, assessing all UK councils on the actions they've taken towards net zero. After the publication, we offered our response to the scorecards, which is that the route to net zero is a complex one and these league tables are often unhelpful, not reflecting the huge efforts of councils it takes to meet net zero targets, whilst also working hard to adapt their services in response to the changing climate to continue to serve their communities. We have lots of freely available climate resources on our Resource Hub to support these goals – please take a look.

The government also announced the long awaited simpler recycling policy with new requirements for local authorities and businesses in England. There are lots of implications but the announcement will allow councils to move forwards in strategic planning and development of resource efficient services. Our full analysis of the next steps is here.

The Second National Infrastructure Assessment was also launched. The five yearly review covers a wide range of infrastructure areas beyond just transportation, including energy, waste, digital, water, and more. Looking ahead, the need to develop and articulate the case for infrastructure investment and associated devolved powers at the local level provides opportunity and complexity in equal measure. Local Partnerships can help strengthen the case for investment and leverage the skills required to support local councils identify, assess, and prioritise place-shaping requirements, navigate the challenges of net zero and assure projects and programmes. You can read a full breakdown of the report on our website.

We have run webinars on both using the Sourcing Playbook and our upcoming update of our Housing Delivery Vehicle Toolkit this month, with great feedback from our attendees. As a subscriber to our mailing list – we’ll let you know when the new toolkit is out as well as upcoming webinars on a range of topics from temporary accommodation and data analytics!

Kind regards,

The Local Partnerships team

October saw the launch of the Council Climate Action Scorecards.

The publication of the scorecards does not reflect the huge efforts we know councils are going to to meet their ambitious net zero targets, whilst also working hard to adapt their services in response to the changing climate to continue to serve communities.

We continue to support many councils with the prioritisation of their climate action plans and adaptation strategies.
