Issue 138: A mid-week edition with 55+ open roles, plus content & events worthy of your time

Part 1: Get Informed

This week I’ve been on the search for helpful content that would appeal to all career stages – but I’m kicking off this edition with one for new grads (or early career readers):

Experts offer advice to new college grads on entering the workforce in the age of gen AI

  • Become fluent in AI

  • Hone your soft skills

  • Choose your employer wisely - “Seek out employers that are integrating AI responsibly and with respect for their workforce — as opposed to embracing it chiefly to replace people.”

I’d offer a 4th piece of advice: Strive to learn from co-workers, supervisors and mentors about building your business acumen and creative judgment. These will be human skills needed within “AI with human oversight model” that many employers are currently embracing.

Regardless of career stage, I am certain you’ve been hearing the terminology “AI agents, agentic, etc.” as you’ve been consuming the latest reporting on AI trends.  To help us all get grounded on what’s meant by the terminology and how it’s already shaping work, I recommend the following two resources:

Generative AI vs. Agentic AI: Shaping the future of AI collaboration (IBM video)

How agentic AI is already shaping the workforce (HBR)

Additional content that caught my attention that caught my attention this week:

5 Marketing truths you won’t hear at Cannes (Spoiler: “AI is killing marketing jobs” is on the list. These points stood out:

“AI is transforming every aspect of marketing: insights, creative, content, media, targeting, and optimization... The consequences, including job displacement and urgent reskilling, are already here. AI is killing marketing jobs. Denial is not an option.”

Nicholas Thompson’s posts on “What’s Hot in Tech” continue to be “scroll stopping” for me. This video on the buzz around the paper written by Anthropic’s Claude was thought provoking and a good reminder to stop and validate the source of what you are reading and sharing.

Part 3: Tap into the power of community

While summer can be a time of travel and vacations, it’s also a great time to reconnect and strengthen your network. If this isn’t your strength or you’re a little out of practice, Marni Gordon offers some actionable tips in her latest newsletter topic “ 4 ways to network this summer.

Two virtual events to get on your calendar:

Monday, June 23rd at 8pm ET/5pm PT: The Future Proof Leader’s Book Club. This month we’ll be discussing “From Strength to Strength” by Arthur Brooks.

Thursday, July 10th at 1pm ET/ 10am PT: CoPilot for Communicators (hosted by ICology)

Considering consulting or fractional work instead of a full-time role? I recommend following Ashley Dennison and joining her “Ask me anything” session on Monday, June 23rd at 11am ET. Be sure to RSVP to receive the Zoom details.

Okay, that’s all the calendar items… next onto my usual list of people to follow:
