Issue 154: A Tuesday night edition with 90 new roles + 1 must read content pick on the state of the job market

Part 1: Get informed

This week I am focused solely on the recent reporting on National Association for Business Economics (NABE) economic survey results. To help you process the key takeaways, I turned to one of my AI sidekicks, Claude for a little help achieving clarity and brevity.

Why a Stronger Economy Might Not Mean Easier Job Search

  • Economists now project the U.S. economy will grow at 1.8% in 2025—significantly faster than their earlier 1.3% estimate—suggesting resilience despite ongoing inflation and tariff concerns.

  • The labor market is cooling noticeably: job growth has slowed to an expected 60,000 positions per month (down from 87,000 jobs added earlier this year), and layoffs have hit their highest levels since 2020.

  • Long-term unemployment is surging, with 26% of all unemployed workers out of work for 27+ weeks—the highest rate in over three years—signaling a tougher environment for those with extended job search periods.

  • The unemployment rate is expected to tick up from its current 4.3% to 4.5% by 2026, suggesting employers will continue to be selective about hiring.

What this means for job searching:

  • While GDP growth is positive news for economic stability and business confidence, the job market tells a different story.

  • Employers are becoming more selective and cautious with hiring, even as the overall economy expands.

For job seekers, this translates to the need to stand out through: A clear personal brand that shows expertise in your field, investing in a strong network (and tapping into it strategically), and being prepared for a more competitive landscape.

Part 2: Find your next role

A reminder: I am not affiliated with the recruiting or hiring for any of the roles featured. Therefore, please use your normal due diligence when researching further.
