Yesterday’s Big Legal News: AML supervision for the legal sector is set to move from the SRA to the FCA — part of the Chancellor’s “blitz on business bureaucracy.” The aim is consistency across professional services. The worry? That it may bring more complexity than clarity. The SRA’s been at this since 2007, and firms have invested heavily in getting AML right. Change is welcome when it improves outcomes — less so when it simply reshuffles the oversight. Here’s hoping the FCA delivers a genuinely risk-based, proportionate approach.
