For 35 years, NYLAG has fought alongside New Yorkers spanning communities as diverse as our city to disrupt and combat racial, social, and economic injustice. We reject the idea that wealth should determine who has access to justice. This year, we stood united against a cruel and chaotic federal policy agenda that sought to divide and disenfranchise our communities — but when they divide, we unite.  We unite with survivors of domestic and intimate partner violence as we advocate for essential options beyond the legal fight. We unite with public housing tenants who are entitled to the same transparency and protections as those in private housing. We unite with students and their families who have a right to free appropriate public education. We unite with Medicaid and home care recipients to protect their access to care. We unite with our immigrant neighbors who deserve to thrive in the place so many of us call home. Asylum is a human right, and we have an obligation to respect that right under international law. Immigrant New Yorkers should not be placed under indefinite electronic surveillance without explanation as they follow the immigration process. We were honored to attend the Bob Woodruff Foundation's Stand Up For Heroes event Monday night at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts — an evening dedicated to uplifting and celebrating our veterans, military families, and the organizations working to ensure they receive the support they've earned. With the Bob Woodruff Foundation's support, NYLAG's LegalHealth Veterans Initiative is able to provide critical legal clinics that connect veterans with public benefits, advance planning resources, and more.

On Veterans Day and every day, NYLAG's Veterans Practice team fights alongside veterans, guiding them through complex legal systems and advocating for the benefits they've earned. Every veteran should have access to the resources and benefits they've earned—but for thousands, that access remains out of reach. That's why NYLAG is launching a new Pro Bono Discharge Upgrade Clinic this week to increase our capacity to help connect New York City veterans with the resources they need to secure the benefits they deserve. Folks from the Foreclosure Prevention Project in NYLAG’s Consumer Protection Unit were proud to recently take part in Center for NYC Neighborhoods' 2025 Affordable Homeownership Summit, where we tackled some of the most pressing challenges facing homeowners today. At NYLAG, we will continue our work with homeowners to keep them in their homes through litigation, fraud prevention, and community outreach.
