I found a sentence:

I meant '\keys_set:nn'. By 'nothing', I mean 'nothing the latex people would approve'.

I'm not very clear the meaning of "by nothing", please help explain.

  • To get help, you need to show us where the word 'nothing' was used before, that it needs explaining further. By where, I mean quote the previous sentence that included the word. Commented 14 hours ago

  • By 'nothing', I mean 'nothing the latex people would approve'.

by there means: when I use the word nothing.

This is referring back to a previous sentence where they used the word "nothing". It's clarifying what they meant when they used that word -- it meant "nothing the latex people would approve".

You can use this phrase structure any time you use a word in an ideosyncratic, unusual, or sarcastic way. You say "by X I mean Y", where X is the word and Y is the explanation.
