We are pleased to announce that the cornerstone of our Nivala biogas plant has been laid. This marks the official start of construction for what is expected to be Finland’s largest biogas facility, developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners through our CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I (CI ABF I). Once completed in 2027, the Nivala plant is expected to produce over 200+ GWh of liquefied biomethane annually, strengthening regional energy self-sufficiency and reducing Finland's reliance on imported gas. Andreas Brandt, Partner at CIP says: "The Nivala project is a significant milestone for both CIP and Finland’s green transition. In close collaboration with local farmers and businesses, we are not only building the country’s largest biogas plant; we are reducing reliance on imported gas, supporting sustainable agriculture, and creating new jobs in the region. And Nivala is just the beginning. We are grateful for the warm welcome and see great potential for more projects like this in Finland in collaboration with local partners." From a remote Danish island to the world: Plexar's partnership with Vejrø acts as a blueprint for the global energy transition.
“If we can make it work on a small remote island, we can make it work anywhere” With dedication and innovation, Vejrø has built an island-mode electrical system focused on sustainability, energy resilience, and independence, already powered by ~90% renewable energy. Through the partnership between Plexar & Vejrø, the ambition is to reach 100% renewable energy by replacing diesel gensets with advanced battery storage, intelligent control, and additional renewable supply, creating a fully green ecosystem. This is more than powering a small island in the Baltic Sea, it’s a scalable solution that can be replicated globally, bringing energy security and sustainability to communities everywhere. Together, we’re not just imagining a greener future, we’re building it. Yesterday, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners welcomed 17 South African bursary students to our Copenhagen office as part of the Danish Vocational Program (DVP), a partnership between Mulilo, CIP, and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The technical skills these students are gaining, at TechCollege of Aalborg, will power their communities, create jobs, and accelerate South Africa’s energy transition. The students participated in discussions with Senior Partner Christina Grumstrup Soerensen and South African Ambassador Fikile Magubane. They also attended a CIP Academy masterclass on various renewable technologies and a workshop focused on building strong CVs. A special thank you to the students, speakers, and contributors who made today possible. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these students will make when they return to South Africa. As Mulilo expands its social-impact footprint, we are proud to support programmes that foster growth and community engagement. This week, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners met with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. of the Philippines to discuss our regional projects and explore opportunities to bolster the country’s energy infrastructure. The discussion centered on the San Miguel Bay project, which is set to become one of the Philippines’ first large scale offshore wind developments. With a potential installed capacity of up to 1 GW, this project will play a vital role in strengthening the national grid and supporting the country’s energy transition. The visit to the Philippines also provided an opportunity to meet with both the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Additionally, we visited our colleagues at the CIP Philippines office and toured our San Miguel Bay site, where we had a very warm welcome and interesting discussions with Congressman Migz Villafuerte and the office of the Governor of Camarines Sur. We extend our thanks to the President and his government, and to our colleagues in the Philippines, for hosting our four senior partners: Jakob Baruël Poulsen, Torsten Lodberg Smed, Christina Grumstrup Soerensen, and Christian Skakkebæk. We look forward to our continued collaboration with the Philippine government to achieve its renewable energy goals. Can the energy transition solve the triple challenge of delivering affordable, resilient, and clean energy? Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, in collaboration with Ea Energianalyse A/S and Oxford Economics, has developed a data-driven analysis of the European energy system towards 2050 to this complex question. Our findings suggest that electrification and an integrated, clean energy system can act as the driving force behind European competitiveness and prosperity over the next two decades. To achieve this, Europe must expand offshore wind capacity to 335 GW, nine times its current level. Simultaneously, onshore wind and solar power must grow threefold and sevenfold, reaching 550 GW and 1,600 GW respectively. These are significant numbers and will require historic investment levels. But, at CIP, we believe that this change is possible. If we succeed, by 2050, Europe will be energy resilient for the first time in 100 years, delivering affordable, independent energy. Watch the video below where CIP co-founder and Senior Partner Christina Grumstrup Soerensen explains more. Find the full whitepaper here: https://lnkd.in/dPWUuBzN
