𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀? It all starts in our lab-scale test facilities, where small quantities of material can tell a big story. We currently operate four specialized facilities: 🔹 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗖 (𝗥𝗖): Our first lab-scale setup, testing a few grams of sorbent for adsorption capacity. With 14 identical stations, we can screen many materials in parallel. Fun fact: 4 of these stations date back to the PhDs of our co-founders Jan and Christoph – and they’re still going strong! 🔹𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗚 (𝗥𝗚): RC’s sister facility, including desorption capabilities. It has 4 stations, including one modified to test very low adsorption temperatures (down to -20°C). 🔹𝗢𝗫𝗜 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿: “OXI” stands for oxidation, and this facility has 5 parallel lines dedicated to studying how oxidation impacts sorbent lifetime. These tests run for weeks or even months. 🔹𝗢𝗫𝗜 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘀: Also focused on lifetime testing, this setup includes up to 40 reactors to simulate temperature, humidity, and gas conditions. These tests also span weeks or months. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? Testing at this scale means we can gather critical insights (adsorption capacity, desorption performance, oxidation resistance, and lifetime degradation) using only a few grams of material. Innovation is accelerated by testing small as it allows for faster learning before moving to larger-scale tests. 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲, 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁. Because every breakthrough starts small. #CarbonRemoval #DirectAirCapture #EngineeringExcellence #ScalingSolutions

𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 Over the past two weeks, our CEO, Christoph Gebald, spoke at two leading global innovation conferences: #FII9 from FII Institute in Riyadh and ADIPEC Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi. Both platforms drive dialogue on the future of energy, climate technology, and sustainability. During FII, Christoph spoke alongside VCM and Saudi Electricity Company and explained how Climeworks helps companies reach their decarbonization goals. We meet customer demand by accelerating the scaling of DAC, and offer diversified portfolios of high-quality carbon removals. At ADIPEC, Christoph spoke on a panel with Net Zero Technology Centre, EMSTEEL Group and Baker Hughes to discuss carbon management. He emphasized how direct air capture companies can collaborate with heavy industry, both through commercial partnerships and strategic co-location.   Further roundtables, panels and conversations highlighted how the Middle East is well-positioned to lead in deploying climate technology, given its abundant renewable energy resources, world-class infrastructure, and strategic geographic location. We are seeing this first-hand: This summer, the Saudi Minister of Energy and KAPSARC inaugurated a Climeworks testing unit in Riyadh: https://lnkd.in/ez6PyMjV. The testing unit is now fully operational and capturing real-time data in Saudi Arabia’s hot and arid conditions. We’re energized by the momentum from both conferences, and look forward to exploring future opportunities to scale carbon removal across the region. #FII #ADIPEC #CarbonRemoval #SaudiArabia #NetZero #ClimateAction

Johan Rockström is one of the most respected scientific voices on climate in the world. Thank you, Prof. Rockström, for your tireless efforts to remind us that there is no way around the science: we must drastically reduce emissions and invest heavily in carbon removal, both engineered and nature-based. The overshoot of 1.5°C is a stark reality, but not a reason to lose hope. It’s a call to accelerate every solution that can help restore climate stability. Let’s ensure #COP30 delivers on implementation, not just ambition.

In the next 5-10 years, it’s ‘inevitable’ the planet will breach 1.5°C of global warming on a more permanent basis, after it touched the boundary for the first time in 2024, says Johan Rockström, Director of PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. The situation is urgent - but far from hopeless. With the world’s leaders set to assemble at the #COP30 climate conference from 10-21 November, Rockström names 3 priorities to help minimize the overshoot and get the planet back to 1.5°C by the end of the century. Learn more about what's at stake for climate and nature during the conference: https://ow.ly/GqKt50Xpalk As the world looks to COP30, momentum is building for collective action on climate change. 𝗦𝗕𝗧𝗶 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝗳𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘁-𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 – 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹 The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has unveiled its second draft of the net-zero standard. This is a refined version of a previous draft released in March, and was released ahead of a public consultation and expected adoption in Q1 2026. The new draft incorporates key milestones and recognition criteria for carbon removal: From the launch of the updated standard, companies can already earn a recognition label for addressing ongoing scope 1–3 emissions, including through removal credits and other forms of climate action. Beginning 2035, there will be a mandatory ramp-up phase of removals for large multinationals and medium-sized companies operating in higher income geographies.  This ramp-up phase will include land-based and “long-lived” removals as a percentage of ongoing scope 1-3 emissions. Long-lived removals are defined by a minimum durability threshold, with CO₂ stored for centuries to millennia.  What does this mean for companies? Throughout recognition and mandatory phases, companies can already be rewarded for ramping up their removals to the volumes that will be required at net-zero, including working with their value chain partners to address the scope 3 component of this ramp-up.  Curious to learn more? 👉 Get in touch with us using the link in the first comment. 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Following our recent post on mid-scale testing, we’re zooming in on the small-scale test facilities that play a crucial role in Climeworks’ technology development. At our 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (LTF) and 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 (HTF), we run 8 parallel test lines across both setups, each capable of full Direct Air Capture cycles to simulate real-world conditions at small-scale. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁? With these two test facilities, we rapidly evaluate both lifetime and performance of Gen2, Gen3, and future technologies—fast, precise, and cost-effective. ▪️ 𝗟𝗧𝗙 focuses on accelerated lifetime testing, running cycles in record time while capturing fundamentals to assess sorbent durability.  ▪️ 𝗛𝗧𝗙 zeroes in on performance. Equipped with advanced gas adsorption analyzers, it extracts detailed adsorption/desorption data before moving to mid-scale testing. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? Scaling from lab to operating plant is one of the hardest challenges in material development. Small-scale tests often fail to predict real-world performance—but not here. Over the past decade, Climeworks has built methodologies that bridges this gap: by correlating high-resolution adsorption data and accelerated lifetime results with actual plant conditions, we can forecast how a material will behave at scale before investing in mid-scale trials. This approach means faster innovation, fewer surprises, and a lean path to deploying only the best-performing materials. Every test counts. Stay tuned for the next spotlight on our lab-scale test facilities! #CarbonRemoval #DirectAirCapture #EngineeringExcellence #ScalingSolutions
