Recent data indicates that 63% of employees believe their companies are not doing enough to tackle climate and sustainability challenges. Among those surveyed, 21% have contemplated switching jobs to work for a more environmentally responsible organization. This reflects a rising expectation that businesses integrate sustainability into core operations rather than treating it as an ancillary concern. As the regulatory landscape evolves and stakeholder pressure increases, alignment with sustainability principles is becoming a critical factor in talent retention and corporate reputation. Beyond internal policies, there is also an expectation for corporate leadership in public discourse. 39% of employees would like their employers to take a public stance on climate change and environmental issues. This represents a four-percentage-point decline from the previous year, suggesting that expectations may be shifting from advocacy alone to demonstrable action and measurable impact. Let's dive in 🤿 🌿 Gen Z and Millennials care about a potential employer’s sustainability habits: 70% consider a company’s environmental record to be very or somewhat important when evaluating a possible employer. 💡For employers, this means sustainability has major implications for talent attraction. 🔥 Young workers are applying pressure: Almost half of Gen Z and Millennials say they and their colleagues have put pressure on their employers to take action on sustainability. 💡Workplace climate action is happening, and employers should create open and transparent pathways to listen and respond to employee concerns—and implement their ideas! 🔃 Corporate confidence is out of sync with young people’s views on sustainability: While 92% of global CxOs think the world will do enough to protect the environment, half of Gen Z and Millennials are pessimistic this will actually happen. 💡Business leaders need to step up as sustainability advocates instead of waiting for others to take action.
