    The best scale-up advice I can give: build systems before you build teams. Otherwise, you're just scaling the mess. When teams keep duplicating components, fixing the same bugs, or debating basic design decisions, it's not dysfunction. It's the system working as it was allowed to exist. No design system means more rework, slower delivery, higher cognitive load, and fragmented user experience. Design systems are not overhead. They are infrastructure. They enable clarity, reduce churn, and create the conditions for consistent execution. Scaling without one drains your resources and erodes product quality. Good teams don’t just build features. They build systems that build features. If delivery feels slow and alignment always slips, the problem isn’t the people. It’s the system they’re stuck inside.     When I first became an entrepreneur, one of my biggest challenges was learning how to lead a team. I quickly realized that scaling a team is about much more than just hiring talented people. Here are some of the steps I've found essential to growing a team: 1. Alignment Everyone has to be aligned on the company's mission and goals so that they're moving in the same direction. For leaders, this involves constantly repeating the company's roadmap and being transparent about goals and objectives. 2. The "mind melding" phase This approach may be more relevant for senior hires. Rather than granting complete autonomy from the start, I’ve found that a phased transition works better. I typically spend the first few months deeply involved in their work. During this period, I gain insight into their thought process, and they, in turn, understand my expectations and approach. Once we’ve established a mutual understanding, I gradually step back, confident that we’re aligned. 3. Independence and autonomy From there, I think one of the most important things you can do as a leader is get out of the way. If you want to attract and retain people who are self-starters and proactive, you have to give them autonomy. 4. Accountability and measurability The last step is to create accountability by checking in at regular intervals. Clear, measurable KPIs have to be part of the equation. In other words, independence is important, but it goes along with the expectation of producing concrete results. Building a strong team is an ongoing process that requires intentional effort, clear communication, and a balance between guidance and autonomy. You're not just scaling a company—you're building a culture where innovation isn't limited to just one person or their ideas.

Imagine being able to turn up or down the power needed for GenAI, like adjusting the volume on a speaker, so we’re always prepared without wasting resources. 🔄 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 GenAI models aren’t static; they need regular tuning to stay effective. We’ve set up automatic model retraining so models get updated as new data comes in. It’s like scheduling regular maintenance on a car to keep it running smoothly without manual effort each time. 🔐 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐭-𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 For GenAI to work responsibly, data security is key. We’ve embedded data governance controls right into our workflows, so every new GenAI function automatically checks for data quality and compliance with regulations, keeping everything secure as we grow. ⚙️ 𝐑𝐞𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 We’re building a library of API-based microservices - think of these as plug-and-play GenAI functions that can be used across different projects.      🚀 How to Build a Successful Data Product  In today's data-driven world, building a high-impact data product is more than just collecting and analysing data—it's about creating value for users and businesses. Whether it’s a recommendation system, analytics dashboard, or AI-driven automation, a great data product follows a structured approach.  Here’s my step-by-step guide to building scalable, impactful data products:   1️⃣ Start with the Problem, Not the Data   🔹 Identify a real business or user pain point—data for the sake of data isn’t useful.   🔹 Understand who your users are and how they will interact with the data.   🔹 Ask: *What decisions will this product enable?*   2️⃣ Define Clear Objectives & Metrics   🔹 Set measurable goals: What does success look like?   🔹 Define key performance indicators (KPIs)—engagement, accuracy, speed, adoption.   🔹 Balance business needs with user experience.   3️⃣ Build a Strong Data Foundation   🔹 Ensure clean, high-quality, and accessible data.   🔹 Implement governance, lineage tracking, and compliance from the start.   🔹 Scalability matters—design for future growth.   4️⃣ Choose the Right Tech Stack   🔹 Use modern data platforms, cloud solutions, and APIs.   🔹 Leverage AI/ML for automation, predictions, and recommendations.   🔹 Prioritise real-time vs. batch processing based on use case.   5️⃣ Design for Usability & Adoption   🔹 A great data product is intuitive, self-service, and actionable.   🔹 Visualisation & UX matter—dashboards, alerts, or reports should be user-friendly.   🔹 A/B test & iterate based on user feedback.   6️⃣ Build with Privacy & Ethics in Mind   🔹 Embed privacy, security, and compliance into the product from day one.   🔹 Be transparent about how data is used.   🔹 Consider bias, fairness, and explainability in AI-driven features.   7️⃣ Continuously Improve & Scale   🔹 Monitor performance, gather feedback, and iterate.   🔹 Scale based on business needs & user adoption.   🔹 Keep up with new technologies & evolving user expectations.  💡 Final Thought: A successful data product is not just about data & AI—it's about delivering real value, solving problems, and driving better decisions.  What challenges have you faced while building data products?     I was excited to see McKinsey & Company share research about teams that is very much in line with the work we are doing. Team-focused transformations can lead to 30% efficiency gains in organizations that implement these strategies effectively. The tough part? Not all teams are created equal, so this approach is a bit more complex. Here are four actions leaders can take to build a network of effective teams, based on case studies of organizations. One: Identify the Highest Value Teams Start transformation by identifying high-value teams. Select teams aligned with the organization’s purpose. Empower teams through guided journeys and support from facilitators. Begin with a core group, then add teams in waves. The result: cultural shifts, improved agility, and measurable results. Two: Activate the Teams Give teams clear goals and decision-making power. Cut bureaucracy and empowered teams. Teams focused on high-value work and involved key stakeholders. The result: faster decisions, better collaboration, and continuous improvement. Three: Lift the Leaders to Support Their Teams Traditional leadership skills must evolve to inspire purpose and remove obstacles. Leaders act as connectors, share successes, and address challenges. A growth mindset helps leaders navigate new ways of working. The result: empowered teams, faster decision-making, stronger collaboration, and a scalable transformation driven by purpose-led leadership. Four: Scale this Approach to More and More Teams Share success stories to inspire enthusiasm and highlight the benefits of the transformation. Measure impact with tools like team barometers, tracking alignment, mood, trust, and teamwork levels. Scale transformation by moving from prioritized teams to a broader group of value-creating teams. The result: scalable transformation driven by a network of change agents. The result of all of these steps: significant performance improvements.

    Power Automate Work Queues are not built for scale! That's a fact. When you think about scalability in Power Automate, one thing that will definitely come to mind at some point is queues and workload management. While you might be able to survive without them in some event-based transactional flows that only process a single item at a time, but whenever you process tasks in batches, or when RPA gets involved, you'll need queues. Power Automate comes with Work Queues out of the box. And you would think that's your go-to queueing mechanism for scaling. After all, it's at scale that you really need those queues - to de-couple your flows and make it easier to maintain, support, debug them, as well as make them more robust and efficient. Queues is a must even at medium scale. Heck, we use them even in small scale implementations. But the surprising thing about Power Automate Work Queues is that they are not fit for high scale implementations. And that is by design! The docs themselves (link in the comments) explicitly state that if have high volumes or if you dequeue (pick up work items from the queue for processing) concurrently, you should either do it within moderate levels or use something else. If you try and use Power Automate Work Queues for high scale implementations (more than 5 concurrent dequeue operations or hundreds/thousands of any type operations involving the queues), you'll get in trouble. There can be all sorts of issues that could happen - your data may get duplicated, you may accidentally deque the same work item in multiple concurrent instances, or your flows might simply get throttled or even crash. This is because of the way they're build and the way they utilize Dataverse tables for storing work items and work queue metadata. So, if you do want to scale, it's best to use an alternative. And, obviously, Microsoft wouldn't be Microsoft if they didn't have an alternative tool to do that. The docs themselves recommend Azure Service Bus Queues for high throughput queueing mechanisms. Another alternative could also be Azure Storage Queues, but that only makes sense if the individual work items in your queue can get large (lots of data or even documents) or when you expect your queue to grow beyond 80GB (which is possible in very large scale implementations). Otherwise, Azure Service Bus Queues are absolutely perfect for very large volumes of small transactions. On top of that, they have some very advanced features for managing, tracking, auditing and otherwise handling your work items. And, of course, there's a existing connector in Power Automate to use it. So, while I do love Power Automate Work Queues, I'll only use them in relatively small scale implementations. And for everything else - my queues will go to Azure. And so should yours.
