⛑ First Aid Basics Every Security Officer Should Know – essential for quick response and ensuring safety on site: ⸻ 🔴 1. Primary Survey – DRABC Always assess the situation using the DRABC method: • D – Danger: Check for danger to yourself and others. • R – Response: Check if the person responds (tap and shout). • A – Airway: Make sure the airway is clear. • B – Breathing: Look, listen, and feel for breathing. • C – Circulation: Check for signs of circulation (movement, pulse). ⸻ 🩹 2. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) – Adults If not breathing: • Call emergency services. • Start 30 chest compressions (at least 5–6 cm deep). • Give 2 rescue breaths (if trained), or continue hands-only CPR. ⸻ 🩸 3. Bleeding Control • Wear gloves. • Apply direct pressure to the wound. • Use clean cloth or dressing. • If bleeding is severe, elevate the limb and apply a tourniquet only as a last resort. ⸻ 🧯 4. Burns • Cool the burn with cool running water for at least 20 minutes. • Do not apply creams or break blisters. • Cover with a non-stick, sterile dressing. ⸻ 🤕 5. Fractures & Sprains • Immobilize the area. • Do not move the injured person unnecessarily. • Apply cold pack to reduce swelling. • Support the injured limb with a sling or padding. ⸻ 🫁 6. Choking • Ask, “Are you choking?” • If they can’t speak, give: • 5 back blows (between the shoulder blades). • Followed by 5 abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver). • Repeat until the object is cleared or they become unresponsive. ⸻ ☀️ 7. Heat Stroke / Heat Exhaustion • Move the person to a cool area. • Loosen clothing. • Give small sips of water. • Cool with wet cloths or a fan. ⸻ ⚠️ 8. Shock • Lay the person down, elevate legs. • Keep them warm and calm. • Do not give food or drink. • Call for emergency help. ⸻ 📱 9. Emergency Numbers • Always know the local emergency number. • Keep hotel/resort internal emergency contacts saved. ⸻ 🧠 10. Stay Calm & Communicate • Your calm approach reassures others. • Report all incidents clearly to supervisors and emergency responders.

💊 HSE First Aid – Be Ready to Save a Life 🏥 Workplace safety is not complete without a strong first aid system. Accidents can happen anytime – our readiness can make the difference between a minor injury and a major incident. Here’s what every safety professional should ensure: 🔹 1. Risk Assessment Identify hazards (burns, cuts, chemical exposure, falls) and decide how many first aiders, kits, and special equipment (like AEDs or eye wash stations) are needed. 🔹 2. Trained First Aiders Ensure designated first aiders are trained and refreshed regularly in: ✅ CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) – For cardiac arrest victims. ✅ Bleeding Control – Apply pressure, use bandages, elevate injured part. ✅ Burn Treatment – Cool with running water for 20 min, cover with sterile dressing. ✅ Fracture Management – Immobilize with splint, avoid unnecessary movement. ✅ Choking Response – Back blows & abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver). ✅ Shock Management – Lay casualty flat, keep warm, reassure until help arrives. 🔹 3. First Aid Kits & Equipment Inspect and restock kits monthly – include gloves, bandages, gauze, scissors, antiseptic wipes, CPR face shield, and first aid guide. 🔹 4. Emergency Procedure & Communication Display emergency contacts, location of first aid kits, and names of trained first aiders. 🔹 5. Record & Report Document every first aid case – helps with compliance and prevention of future incidents. --- A well-prepared first aid plan builds confidence, reduces injury severity, and saves lives. 💬 How does your workplace train employees in case of emergency? #HSE #FirstAid #WorkplaceSafety #SafetyTraining #CPR #EmergencyResponse #SafetyOfficer #OSH

ABCDE During Medical emergencies 1. A – Airway (with cervical spine protection if trauma is suspected) 🫁🦴 Assessment: Check if the airway is open and clear. Look for obstructions (e.g., tongue, vomit, blood). Listen for abnormal sounds like stridor. Management: ✅ Position the patient properly (head tilt-chin lift or jaw thrust in trauma). ✅ Suction if needed. ✅ Insert an airway adjunct (oropharyngeal or nasopharyngeal airway) if necessary. ✅ Prepare for intubation if airway compromise is severe. 2. B – Breathing 🌬️🫁 Assessment: Check respiratory rate, depth, symmetry, oxygen saturation, and signs of distress (e.g., use of accessory muscles, cyanosis). Management: ✅ Provide oxygen as needed (nasal cannula, mask, or non-rebreather). ✅ Assist with ventilation (bag-mask ventilation if necessary). ✅ Monitor breath sounds and chest expansion. ✅ Position patient to optimize breathing (e.g., semi-Fowler's position). 3. C – Circulation ❤️💉 Assessment: Check pulse, blood pressure, capillary refill, skin color, and temperature. Look for signs of shock (cold, clammy skin, low BP). Management: ✅ Establish IV access and start fluids if needed. ✅ Control bleeding with direct pressure if present. ✅ Monitor cardiac rhythm (ECG) if indicated. ✅ Administer medications like vasopressors if ordered. 4. D – Disability (Neurological Status) 🧠⚡ Assessment: Check level of consciousness using AVPU (Alert, Verbal, Pain, Unresponsive) or Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS). Assess pupil response. Management: ✅ Maintain airway and circulation. ✅ Monitor and document neurological status frequently. ✅ Consider blood glucose check (treat hypoglycemia if present). ✅ Elevate head of the bed (unless contraindicated) to reduce intracranial pressure. 5. E – Exposure & Environment 🌡️🛏️ Assessment: Fully expose the patient to look for injuries, rashes, burns, or other hidden issues while maintaining temperature. Management: ✅ Prevent hypothermia by using blankets, warm IV fluids, and room heating. ✅ Protect privacy while assessing the entire body. ✅ Identify and manage injuries or infections.
