    Foundation models have transformed natural language processing, but their impact goes beyond text. In a recent tech blog, Netflix’s machine learning team shared how they are building foundation models for recommendations, designed to learn from sequences of user interactions — much like how LLMs learn from sequences of words. At the center of this approach are three major components: - First, the data. Sequences of user interactions undergo tokenization. These tokens capture richer context than isolated signals and become the training ground for the foundation model. - Second, the prediction objective and architecture. Unlike standard LLMs, where every token is treated equally, in the recommendation context different user interactions carry different weights. For example, a full movie watch is more meaningful than a quick trailer view. The team also extends the training objective to predict multiple future items rather than just the immediate next one, aligning recommendations with long-term satisfaction instead of short-term clicks. - Finally, the team highlights unique recommendation problems such as the cold-start issue for new content and incorporates solutions like weighted representations from dual embeddings, as well as incremental training to help the system warm start and evolve smoothly.     No one really likes filling out surveys after a workshop. STOP and do these three things instead. Let’s be honest: You feel awkward giving out surveys. Participants want to get on with their lives. And everyone groans a little inside. Don't get me wrong. Surveys are valuable tools. Any self-respecting consultant, trainer, or facilitator will want to know. It helps us demonstrate value. And provides feedback to help us grow and improve. Here are 3 alternative ways to collect data 1️⃣Set clear, active objectives Write objectives using verbs. This let's you SEE and HEAR success. Avoid vague objectives like “to understand” Share at the start and track throughout. 2️⃣ Debriefs Structure the debrief Give participants space to process. Get the learning. Include accountability and ownership. 3️⃣ Use a feedback wall Set up a (physical or virtual) with 2 prompts: - “What I appreciated about this session...” - “What would have made it better for me...” Encourage participants to leave notes as they leave. ... These techniques not only give you valuable feedback but also create a more reflective and engaging experience. It doesn't measure long-term impact But it gives you proxy indicators. Because transformation happens when clarity meets action. Design with intention, deliver with purpose.     Getting the right feedback will transform your job as a PM. More scalability, better user engagement, and growth. But most PMs don’t know how to do it right. Here’s the Feedback Engine I’ve used to ship highly engaging products at unicorns & large organizations: — Right feedback can literally transform your product and company. At Apollo, we launched a contact enrichment feature. Feedback showed users loved its accuracy, but... They needed bulk processing. We shipped it and had a 40% increase in user engagement. Here’s how to get it right: — 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟭: 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 Most PMs get this wrong. They collect feedback randomly with no system or strategy. But remember: your output is only as good as your input. And if your input is messy, it will only lead you astray. Here’s how to collect feedback strategically: → Diversify your sources: customer interviews, support tickets, sales calls, social media & community forums, etc. → Be systematic: track feedback across channels consistently. → Close the loop: confirm your understanding with users to avoid misinterpretation. — 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟮: 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘇𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 Analyzing feedback is like building the foundation of a skyscraper. Quantify impact → how often does an issue occur? Map risks → classify issues by severity and potential business impact. — 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟯: 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 Now comes the exciting part: turning insights into action. Execution here can make or break everything. Do it right, and you’ll ship features users love. Mess it up, and you’ll waste time, effort, and resources. Here’s how to execute effectively: Prioritize ruthlessly → focus on high-impact, low-effort changes first. Assign ownership → make sure every action has a responsible owner. Set validation loops → build mechanisms to test and validate changes. Stay agile → be ready to pivot if feedback reveals new priorities. — 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟰: 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 What can’t be measured, can’t be improved. If your metrics don’t move, something went wrong.     Every company says they listen to customers. But most just hear them. There's a difference. After spending years building feedback loops, here's what I've learned: Feedback isn't about collecting data. It's about creating change. Most companies fail at feedback because: - They send random surveys - They collect scattered feedback - They store insights in silos - They never close the loop The result? Frustrated customers. Missed opportunities. Lost revenue. Here's how to build real feedback loops: 1. Gather feedback intelligently - NPS isn't enough - CSAT tells half the story - One channel never works Instead: - Run targeted post-interaction surveys - Conduct deep-dive customer interviews - Analyze product usage patterns - Monitor support conversations - Build customer advisory boards - Track social mentions 2. Create a single source of truth - Consolidate feedback from everywhere - Tag and categorize insights - Track trends over time - Make it accessible to everyone 3. Turn feedback into action - Prioritize based on impact - Align with business goals - Create clear ownership - Set implementation timelines But here's the most important part: Close the loop. When customers give feedback: - Acknowledge it immediately - Update them on progress - Show them implemented changes - Demonstrate their impact The biggest mistakes I see: Feedback Overload: - Collecting too much data - No clear action plan - Analysis paralysis Biased Collection: - Listening to the loudest voices - Ignoring silent majority - Over-indexing on complaints Slow Response: - Taking months to act - No progress updates - Lost customer trust Remember: Good feedback loops aren't about tools. They're about trust. Every piece of feedback is a customer saying: "I care enough to help you improve." Don't waste that trust. The best companies don't just collect feedback. They turn it into visible change. They show customers their voice matters. They build trust through action. Start small: 1. Pick one feedback channel 2. Create a clear process 3.     The feedback grid is a valuable tool for collecting and structuring feedback from various sources, such as users, stakeholders, or team members. It's especially useful when dealing with diverse groups of people, as it helps you make sense of the input you receive. Here's how it works: When feedback is given, you can use this grid to identify common patterns and group similar feedback together. This process allows you to gain a clear visualisation of the feedback's importance and impact. You can implement the feedback grid in real-time when feedback is being provided. Being a leadership coach, I have incorporated this into a workshop many times and it is quite straightforward. Provide participants with post-it notes and a flip-chart. Encourage them to jot down their feedback on the post-its. Then, one by one, have participants affix their notes to the flip-chart. This creates an interactive and collaborative environment where individuals can elaborate on their thoughts and perspectives.     𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘀𝗔𝗽𝗽 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗦𝗠𝗦. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁. That's a criminal misuse of WhatsApp that’s quietly killing retention for both D2C and B2B brands. Brands get access to the WhatsApp API, upload a list, and hit “Send to All.” It feels efficient. But it creates what we call the broadcast trap, a pattern that burns through customer trust fast. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸: Without enough personalization, messages feel generic and irrelevant. Customers start ignoring future messages after 1–2 interactions. Engagement and repeat purchase rates drop significantly. We’ve seen this across hundreds of brands before they changed their strategy to: → 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Messages are sent based on user actions, such as abandoned carts, product views, or purchase inactivity. → 𝗦𝗲𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Returning customers, first-timers, and high-LTV buyers each get a different experience. → 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀: Instead of one big push, messages are sent at the right moment — like 2 hours after a missed checkout, or 1 day before an offer expires. → 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Each interaction builds on the last instead of restarting from scratch → 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝘁-𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴: Customers feel in control, not spammed. → 𝟮 -𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Hooking each message with contextual chatbots that continue the conversation. 1-way announcements don’t work, 2-way chats do. Here’s what changes when the 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆: Higher conversion rates Better repeat purchase rates Dramatically fewer unsubscribes and spam reports That’s the power of doing WhatsApp 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵.     Look, cold call pick-up rates and landing in spam are NOT the reasons why outbound isn't working for you in 2025. How do I know? We've worked with thousands of reps in the last few years: - I see all the sh*tty emails - Hardly any reps leave voicemails - People are afraid to call cell phones - Leaders are afraid to set call activity targets - Product pitching like crazy So why isn't outbound working for you? Messaging. I know. Messaging isn't a sexy topic. But poor messaging is likely why outbound doesn't work for you. Common messaging mistakes: ⛔️ Creating outbound messaging in a silo Mistake: A lone BDR leader, sales exec, or marketing exec creates all the cold call talk tracks and email sequences by themselves. Impact: Messaging sounds generic and has too much personal bias. ⛔️ Marketing or product creating outbound messaging Mistake: A PMM or marketing leader writes all the outbound messaging Impact: Since they've had little (or zero) conversations with real customers, the messaging is super generic ⛔️ Product voice: feature heavy messaging Mistake: Messaging focuses on how the solution works, specific features, etc. Impact: This might work on a webpage, but not in a cold email. Messaging feels super salesy and isn't appealing to execs. ⛔️ Not "chunking up" to business outcomes Mistake: Messaging addresses all of the pains of the user, not the decision-makers Impact: Reps get delegated down to product users and struggle to start sales conversations at the exec level ⛔️ Not leveraging customer conversations Mistake: Not using recorded customer conversations to inform messaging Impact: Messaging doesn't use the customer's language and feels generic. What to do instead: ✅ Build a messaging team Get no more than 10 of the best people together to build common messaging. This should include a few of the best AEs, marketing, customer success, sales leaders, product specialists, etc. And make sure to assign a single person to own messaging. ✅ Live workshop messaging by persona/vertical Run live workshops to work out messaging together. At a minimum, messaging should be created for each specific persona. For enterprise, messaging should be created by persona AND industry. A healthcare security leader speaks a different language than a SaaS security leader. ✅ Build a messaging matrix This is what the end product should look like: Personas → Priorities → Current Solutions → Problems/Impact → Desired Outcomes Now you have something that can easily be repurposed into talk tracks and emails. ~~~ If 2025 H1 pipeline looks thin—and outbound isn't producing results—get back to the basics and start with great messaging. Marketing should NOT own sales messaging. Sales needs to own sales messaging. And everyone needs to collaborate together for great messaging. Agree or disagree?

    It's easy to fall into the "doing things just to do them" trap in demand gen and ABM.  👉🏾 Launching campaigns because "it's our typical approach." 👉🏾Creating content because "we have to."   👉🏾 Chasing every lead with the belief that "more is always better." But with AI and automation making it easier than ever to produce generic content, it's even more crucial to pause and ask, "Why?" ✔️Why this campaign? ✔️Why this content? ✔️Why this account? ✔️Does it truly align with our ideal customer profile (ICP)? ✔️Does it resonate with their needs and challenges? ✔️Does it get results on our goals? Generic #ABM is just...marketing. And generic #demandgen is a waste of resources. 👉🏾 To break the autopilot cycle, be specific about your ideal customer. Use tools like 6sense or ZoomInfo to gather rich data, going beyond basic demographics to understand their firmographics, technographics, and psychographics.  👉🏾 Then, map your content to the buyer's journey. Don't just create content for content's sake. Use tools like HubSpot or Marketo to address their pain points and provide real value at each stage. 👉🏾 Analyze intent data. Tools like Bombora or G2 Buyer Intent can tell you which accounts are actively researching solutions like yours, allowing you to focus your ABM efforts on those showing high intent. 👉🏾 Don't forget to make it a personalized experience. Use AI-powered platforms like Persado or Phrasee to tailor your messaging to individual accounts and show a deep understanding of their needs. 👉🏾 Finally, measure what matters. Track metrics that align with your goals, not just vanity metrics. Tools like Google Analytics or Bizible can help you measure the true impact of your ABM and demand gen efforts. 👉🏾 And most importantly, find someone to challenge your thinking. A colleague, a mentor, even a (kind!) competitor. Someone who asks: ✔️Why are we targeting this account? ✔️Will this content truly resonate? ✔️Does this campaign align with our overall strategy? Break free from autopilot, be intentional, and be strategic. Then, watch your ABM and demand generation results grow.
