Advancing new technologies to rapidly expand nuclear energy in the United States ⚛️.
About us
The Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) mission is to advance nuclear power to meet the nation's energy, environmental, and national security needs. Under the guidance of three research objectives, NE resolves barriers to technical, cost, safety, security, and proliferation resistance through early-stage research, development, and demonstration to: -Enhance the long-term viability and competitiveness of the existing U.S. reactor fleet. -Develop an advanced reactor pipeline. -Implement and maintain national strategic fuel cycle and supply chain infrastructure.

General Atomics' new helium gas-cooled fast reactor concept will run on silicon carbide-wrapped fuel that can withstand temperatures twice as high as today’s fuel claddings. The fast modular reactor (FMR) is designed to be made in factories and assembled on-site to deliver 44 megawatts of reliable power on as little as .2 acres of land without the need for an external water source. The company recently completed its conceptual work and can now move toward a preliminary design phase for potential demonstration in the 2030s. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eiEt3jWp

Another big nuclear energy win for the Trump Administration and our nation!
Our Project Janus solicitation is now accepting submissions. Ensuring consistent, resilient energy across military installations and operational theaters has become an increasingly complex challenge for the U.S. military. Aging infrastructure, dependence on vulnerable civilian power grids, complex liquid fuel logistics, and rising energy demands from advanced technologies all threaten mission assurance. The US Army, alongside the Defense Innovation Unit, seeks to prototype Microreactor Power Plant(s) (MPPs) capable of developing a suite of advanced nuclear power plant energy solutions to meet the needs of the U.S. Department of War (DoW). Submissions accepted through 15 December 2025 at 23:59:59 Eastern Time. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e3mYaJBB
