OUR SUSTAINABILITY CALL TO ACTION and OUR CGMA RESEARCH RESOURCES
Bulletin of Atomic Scientists - January 2020

OUR SUSTAINABILITY CALL TO ACTION and OUR CGMA RESEARCH RESOURCES

We have joined the global community calling for Accountants to take action on climate change and sustainability. Working with 'Accountants for Sustainability' (https://www.accountingforsustainability.org/en/index.html ) and our fellow accounting bodies from across the Earth, representing over 2.5 million accountants and students globally, "we’ve developed a statement of approach for the future which outlines Eight Actions which accountants are called upon to take in response to the climate emergency."

Our Chief Executives have endorsed a Call to Action which clearly demonstrates the role that the accountancy profession can play a significant role in achieving both climate change mitigation and adaptation at individual business, industry sector and economy-wide levels.

This call to action highlights that climate change represents an economic, social and business risk – a risk that accountants from across the world must take action on.

Access the statement and to read about the Eight Actions click through to https://www.accountingforsustainability.org/abn-climate-action.html

The commitments include:

·      To develop further resources,

·      Encourage sustainable decision making within the organizations,

·      Give members resources that develop their Skills and Mindsets to meet the climate change challenge.

Over the last ten years our Global R&D mission has seen us develop a range of different resources for our members on sustainability which are available on-line.

We think that our range of outputs discussing sustainability, examining sustainability in practice, researching case studies and creating tools for practitioners to use, will help every practitioner consider how they might embrace this Call to Action and its Eight Actions.

Outlined below is our wide range of Sustainability Thought Leadership, research and tools both from 2020 (discussing TCFDs) and through our back catalogue many of which are still relevant.

So please use the links below to access these resources which will assist you in daily practice, in your CGMA studies and exam preparation ….

… and hopefully this robust and rigorous research will inform you more broadly on the role that Accountants and Finance Teams can play in managing the positive and future sustainable development of Planet Earth. . .

So Watch Out …. for our Posts this year !!

Thank you for this. It's essential that theory and research is followed by real implementation. It cannot just remain an idea or buzzword. The public can be unforgiving if bold statements are not followed by bold actions.
