The Ordinary vs. the Overhyped

The Ordinary tackles ‘misleading’ beauty jargon with The Periodic Fable Campaign by Amanda May from Cosmetics Business

This spot from DECIEM | THE ABNORMAL BEAUTY COMPANY 's brand The Ordinary is calling out the beauty industry with a takedown of made-up jargon coined “The Periodic Fable.” They’re taking down pore-less, wrinkle-erasing secrets in a way that no medical-grade fat-freezing magic elixir could so much as hope to compete with. Their website is a fun one too… I spent a good amount of time perusing their Periodic Fable of buzzwords that’s just perfect. Well, they might disagree.

Re-Vining the Internet

Jack Dorsey funds diVine, a Vine reboot that includes Vine’s video archive by Sarah Perez from TechCrunch

We’ll finally have confirmation if all those TikToks you have saved really would do numbers on Vine . A Vine reboot (known as diVine) is the official home to Vine’s hundreds of thousands of old videos, with the option to upload new videos too.

You might be saying to yourself: “I don’t know, can old tech really make a comeback, is there even a market now that TikTok exists?” I don’t know, why don’t you ask the vinyl players sold at Urban Outfitters whether diVine has a chance of taking off, okay pal?!?

Urban Outfitters Gets Crafty with Canva

Urban Outfitters on Canva

Speaking of Urban Outfitters (and how they manage to stay so darn relevant), the clothing store has partnered with Canva to create feel templates to meet the holiday needs of their customers. Lia Haberman ’s post sums it up pretty well:

“Sometimes what you need to do is listen to your community, understand their cultural norms and show up in ways that are truly helpful to them.”

Finger-Lickin’ Science Fiction

KFC UK Rebrands as 'Hawkins Fried Chicken' in a 'Stranger Things' Crossover by Alejandra F. from DesignRush

In celebration of the final season, KFC UK & Ireland has made a temporary change to “Hawkins Fried Chicken,” creating a series of retro-style spots and activations that make customers feel the brand’s full immersion into the world of the show.

Can a fried chicken chain and a Netflix hit really pull of a collaboration of this size?? I’ll say it… Stranger Things have happened! (I enjoy this joke and you can’t talk me out of feeling happy about it).

It IS Play We’re Looking For

Lego Builds Joyful Holiday Message With Tons of Bricks and Lionel Richie's 'Hello' by Amy Corr from MUSE by The Clios

Sure, KFC and Stranger Things are an obvious match. I mean, how could it not work? But what about the LEGO Group and Lionel Richie?

Could two of Max’s personal favorite things really come together and make one holiday-themed SUPER AD?? No surprise, it works great.
