Join Woolpert Geospatial Program Director Rick Householder next month for a look at how advanced mapping technology is helping support Florida's future. As part of the ANGARI Foundation’s Ocean Expert Exchange series, Rick will share insights from Woolpert’s recent work supporting the Florida Seafloor Mapping Initiative and its mission to deliver a high-resolution, publicly available model of Florida’s coastal waters by 2026. Rick will show how Woolpert used topobathy lidar and sonar technology to map 45,000 square kilometers of Florida's seafloor—and discuss how that data can be used by federal and state agencies to assess Florida's coastal vulnerability and hurricane impacts, evaluate the performance of restoration projects, and support flood risk mapping and ongoing coastal resilience efforts. Did you know that scientists can use aircraft and specialty Lidar, or light detection and ranging, instrumentation to remotely map the surface of the Earth? The systems use pulsed light and a series of sensors to generate detailed, three-dimensional info about the shape of the Earth and its surface. Interested in learning more and, in particular, how these tools are being used to contribute to the Florida Seafloor Mapping Initiative and support infrastructure, habitat mapping, restoration, emergency response, coastal resilience, and more around the state? Register to join our final live #OceanExpertExchange webinar of 2025 on December 11th at 1:30 PM ET when we will explore these efforts with Rick Householder of Woolpert and Nova Southeastern University! ➡️ https://hubs.ly/Q03TDSd90 Our live Ocean Expert Exchange events are presented in partnership with University of Florida Thompson Earth Systems Institute and welcome audiences of all ages. The events include an ~15 minute presentation on the speaker's area of expertise followed by moderated Q&A with the audience, and are livestreamed via Zoom (recommended, but pre-registration required) and YouTube. 📷: Woolpert Florida Museum of Natural History, Florida Department of Environmental Protection #seafloormapping #education #students #educators #LifelongLearners #livestream
