Just in time for Halloween, a post about spirits. 👻👻 No, not the disembodied apparitions that haunt spooky old mansions, but the distilled libations that are enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails. 🥃 🍸 A new Agilent application note describes a fast GC method to determine 17 alcohols, aldehydes, esters, and organic acids using the Agilent 8850 GC with an FID. The high-speed analysis was achieved using a 10-meter column and the GC's rapid oven heating and cooling capabilities. Helium, hydrogen, and nitrogen were evaluated as carrier gases. Cycle times using helium and nitrogen were reduced to about one-third that of the traditional method, while hydrogen exhibited a five-fold improvement. Long-term stability experiments showed that even after 2,000 injections, the retention time remained consistent, and all target peaks remained sharp and symmetrical with consistent and effective separation. post #3 about protein percentage determination through kjeldahl method tips for maintaining accurate results 1) use a sensitive balance for weighing the sample 2) make sure the tube and weighing paper are clean and not contaminated with sample 3) let the heater take the time for preheating to reach 420 celsius then count 90 minutes to let the sample completely digested 4) make sure that the distillation device has no leaks 5) during titration keep in mind the degree of end point colour that you have observe it before during doing the experiment but for blank sample to obtain the value of blank error so we mustnot go beyond or lower than it 6) it is preferred to balance the flask before titration and after reaching end point for maintaining accurate end point more than visual end point as the density of HCl 0.1 N is 1 Kg/L so the volume equal to the mass of titrant

Hold the vinegar! Previously we showed PDP oxidations (C—H [O] & epoxidation) are “turned on” by adding acetic acid & derivatives. Now we discover that replacing the carboxylic acid with electron deficient alcohol solvent preparative chemoselectivity is possible: C—H [O] is 39 X faster than epoxidation! @Nature (advanced article preview): https://lnkd.in/gXCVanE6

How to ensure safe lead levels in spirulina powder? Wayeal AAS delivers precise detection of trace lead in spirulina powder. The solution, equipped with the GF2310 Graphite Furnace and AS2310 Autosampler, achieves highly efficient and precise detection through optimized spectral parameters (lead characteristic wavelength 283.3nm, spectral bandwidth 0.4nm) and a seven-stage temperature program. The experimental data demonstrate a linear correlation coefficient for lead exceeding 0.999, with a detection result of 0.1538mg/kg in a spirulina powder sample, fully validating the method's accuracy and stability. Whether for screening raw materials of health foods or controlling the safety of food additives, Wayeal Atomic Absorption Spectrometers leverage their high sensitivity and reliability to help enterprises and testing institutions safeguard food safety. ⚗️ The test of true hypochlorous acid lies in the chemistry. Electrolysing saline produces a mix of HOCl + salt. But the salt destabilises the HOCl molecule over time — leaving you with undesirable byproducts like sodium hypochlorite (bleach), and inconsistent results. Trifectiv Plus, made by Thoclor Labs, contains no sodium chloride. It’s a pharmaceutical-grade HOCl verified by independent labs to remain stable for 2 years. 🌿 Anti-inflammatory 🩹 Accelerates healing by up to 70 % 🧪 Proven safe and effective It’s science-backed care — not chemistry by chance. So before you buy an HOCl wound spray, check the label 👀 • Does it list saline, sodium chloride or electrolysed water? • Are there fragrances or essential oils added? • Is it bottled in plastic? • Is the shelf life only 6 or 12 months? If yes — that’s not the best HOCl for your money. Trifectiv Plus contains only water + HOCl, making it safe and effective. That’s the Trifectiv difference. Determination of Boron 1. Take 1 ml sample or dilution into evaporating dishes of the same type, shape and size. 2. Add 4.0 ml Curcumin reagent to each and swirl gently to mix contents thoroughly. 3. Float dishes on a water bath set at 55±2°C and let them remain for 80 minutes, which is usually sufficient for complete drying and removal of HCl. 4. Keep drying time constant for standards and samples. 5. After cooling to room temperature, add 10ml 95% isopropyl alcohol to each dish and stir gently with a polyethylene rod to ensure complete dissolution of the red colored product. 6. Wash contents of dish into a 25 ml volumetric flask, using 95% isopropyl alcohol. 7. Make up to mark with 95% isopropyl alcohol and mix thoroughly by inverting. 8. Read absorbance of standards and samples at a wavelength of 540nm after setting reagent blank at zero absorbance. 9. Make Photometric readings within 1 hour of drying samples. Calculation: Boron mg/L = Sample concentration × Dilution factor / Volume of Sample #WaterTesting #Laboratory #Chemistry #QualityControl #WaterTreatment #EnvironmentalScience #Sustainability #chemist #puducherry #boron #samples #spik #samples #analysis #nabl #iso

$44M Deal. One Mission: Ditch Synthetic Dyes. Purity Gas is helping a top food & beverage company make the leap to natural colorings, rolling out on-site NITROCENTER® nitrogen systems across dozens of facilities in Canada and the U.S. Nitrogen isn’t just a gas, it’s a freshness preservative. By displacing oxygen, it locks in vibrant colors, bold flavors, and extended shelf life, all without the inefficiency and cost of traditional liquid deliveries. This $44-million deployment marks one of the largest-scale nitrogen rollouts in North America, supporting a global brand’s pivot to healthier, plant-based colorings while meeting rising nitrogen demands. Why now? In April 2025, the FDA and HHS announced new measures to phase out petroleum-based dyes, giving manufacturers a tight timeline to adapt. Companies generating nitrogen on-site are gaining a competitive edge, ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and operational control. The era of synthetic dyes is ending. The era of smart, on-demand nitrogen is here. Amphoteric oxides are oxides that react with both acids and bases, behaving as both acidic and basic substances. They react with acids to form salt and water, and they react with bases to form salt and water, which is a key characteristic of their dual reactivity. Common examples include aluminium oxide (Al203), zinc oxide (ZnO), and lead oxide (PbO). Reaction with acids: As a base, an amphoteric oxide will neutralize an acid to form a salt and water. Example: Aluminium oxide reacts with hydrochloric acid: Al203 + 6HCL -> 2AlCl3 + 3 H20 Reaction with bases: As an acid, an amphoteric oxide will neutralize a base to form a salt and water. Example: Aluminium oxide reacts with sodium hydroxide: Al203 + 2 NaOH -> 2NaAl02 + H20 Examples: Other common amphoteric oxides include zinc oxide (ZnO), tin oxide (SnO), and lead oxide (PbO).
