Waterfront Toronto’s Post

What is Unfinished Arch? It’s a new destination public art installation coming to Sherbourne Common, created by internationally renowned artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer — known for his interactive works that become activated through public participation. Standing 9.1 metres tall and dramatically cantilevering 14 metres from a single support, Unfinished Arch invites visitors to “complete” it. When someone reaches out to touch its open end, contact sensors activate a flowing line of light, and faint sound, symbolizing connection, creativity, and collective meaning. Unlike traditional monuments, Unfinished Arch embraces incompleteness, reminding us that communities are always evolving, and that public spaces take shape through the people who inhabit them. Construction is planned to be completed in two phases: - Phase 1: September – December 2025 - Phase 2: Early 2026, concluding with the installation’s unveiling shortly after Stay tuned for more information.
