🎙️ Honoured to Speak at Singapore Sports School — The Future of Work & AI in Education It was an inspiring session today with the passionate educators at Singapore Sports School , where we explored the theme — “The Future of Work: How AI Is Transforming Learning and Teaching.” ⚙️📚 We discussed how emerging AI technologies are not replacing teachers — they’re empowering them to become learning experience designers and AI-augmented mentors who nurture curiosity, creativity, and adaptability in students. As part of the SkillsFuture Digital Workplace (SFDW) strategy, educators can now embrace AI tools to: 🤖 Personalize learning experiences 💬 Enhance learner engagement through adaptive feedback 📊 Automate administrative tasks to focus on mentorship 🌱 Cultivate lifelong learning mindsets in students Every teacher is now a learner — and every learner can become a future-ready innovator. Thank you to the Singapore Sports School team for the warm hospitality and enthusiasm! 🙌 #AIinEducation #FutureOfWork #SkillsFutureSG #DigitalWorkplace #EdTech #Educators #LearningTransformation #SingaporeSportsSchool #AIinLearning James Cook Institute

Digital lifelong learning is moving into its vital next phase — more inclusive, more adaptive, and more empowered by AI (with all its promise — and its cautions). I’m delighted to be engaging in these vital conversations at the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) conference at Shanghai Open University. I’m looking forward to exploring how we can shape learning for all, powered by technology, anchored in values, and open to every learner. I have learned a lot from the many experiences presented in the conference from Shanghai Learning City (learning ecosystem for the older adults, China, Singapore (learning efforts for the seniors), Belfast Learning City Age Friendly Plans, Korea (especially for Recognition, Validation and Accreditation (RVA) system for recognition of prior learning (RPL), and much more. #LifelongLearning #DigitalLearning #AIinEducation #InclusiveEducation #AdaptiveLearning #LearningCities #UNESCO #EducationTechnology #FutureOfLearning

South Korea’s classrooms are changing fast, but not everyone is sure they’re ready for the pace. The country that once became a global model for digital learning is now facing a new kind of challenge. Earlier this year, the government introduced AI-powered digital textbooks across schools, hoping to transform how students learn and how teachers teach. It sounded like the perfect blend of technology and education, smart, personalized, efficient. But as it turns out, reality had other plans. Right now, only about a third of elementary schools have actually adopted these AI textbooks, mostly in subjects like English and math. Even in those schools, teachers say the transition hasn’t been easy. Many of them admit they haven’t received enough training to make the most of the technology. Some classrooms don’t even have stable internet or enough devices to keep up. Not long after the rollout, the government quietly stepped back, reclassifying the AI textbooks from official materials to just “supplementary” ones. Suddenly, what was once introduced as a digital revolution began to feel more like an ongoing experiment. But here’s where it gets interesting. While schools are moving cautiously, Korea’s EdTech startups are racing forward. They’re building AI platforms that can grade essays, track learning progress, and create personalized tests in seconds. It almost feels like two different worlds evolving at once, one careful and traditional, the other bold and restless. The question now is whether the system can move fast enough to keep up with all this innovation. Because at the end of the day, technology alone doesn’t teach, people do. And if teachers don’t feel confident using these tools, even the smartest AI won’t make much of a difference. Maybe that’s what this moment is really about, not how advanced the technology is, but how ready people are to use it meaningfully. #EdTech #SouthKorea #AIinEducation #DigitalLearning #EducationInnovation #FutureOfLearning

South Korea is leading the global education transformation. The country has become the first in the world to introduce AI-powered digital textbooks across its public-school system. The initiative goes beyond digitising materials. It is reimagining classrooms: - AI tutors reinforce individual learning - Teachers focus on creativity, discussion and critical thinking - Every student gets digital access and tools - The model: High-Tech, High-Touch — where technology empowers, not replaces, educators With an investment of nearly US $70 million, South Korea’s experiment could reshape global education. How will other nations respond and what happens to those that don’t? #AIinEducation #EdTech #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfLearning #SouthKorea #LeadershipInEducation #AIInnovation #Qonversations

How can we balance innovation and humanity in the age of AI? As AI reshapes the educational landscape, it’s essential that schools remain focus on human-centred values. If we forget the human side of learning, we risk raising students who can produce polished work yet lack agency, compassion, and the courage to fail. and losing sight of education’s true purpose. In this article, Travis Copus, Middle School Principal at Oasis International School - Kuala Lumpur explores how educators can thoughtfully integrate AI while continuing to nurture compassion, character, and critical thinking in students.
