Legora is the unicorn everyone's watching right now and for good reason. In less than two years, they've become the trusted AI partner for hundreds of law firms, with their customer base more than doubling since May alone.
In the first of our “From Our Founders” series, Zeynep and Cecilia caught up with Max from Legora at Slush. Max shares how they scaled to a team of 220 people serving customers in 50 countries and counting.
Max and the Legora team are redefining what's possible in legal tech, and Jeannette, Zeynep, and Cecilia are thrilled to be part of it.
So Max, what's been the most surprisingly fun part of building the Gora? Recruiting. I mean, I love building the team really. I mean, we started the company as three people two years ago and now we're 220. I think it's been a joy to see really young talent that we've hired scale and grow. I mean, I've had to do it and many of the early hires that we had to do it as well. We actually have a really low percentage that get offers from the company. I think we have a lower acceptance rate than C or Harvard even. Max, you're live. 50 countries with all these customers and there are only 2 1/2 years old company. What did you do to unlock this rapid global growth? Being in Europe, you learn how to scale to a new country and a new jurisdiction quickly because you're forced to, right? Like we started in Sweden very quickly due to the Nordics, the rest of Europe, UK, now US, Sydney. And I think when you sort of nailed emotion, it's easy to repeat. We founded the company in early 2023 and in Sweden at the time, I think. There weren't that many sort of hot AI companies to go and work out. Yeah. So I think we had a really unfair access to fantastic builders who really wanted to go for it. I also think that it might have created a sort of a safe bubble for us to grow in, at least for the first sort of six months before we then scale much, much bigger. Max, you've had a number of wins right in the last two years. And what would you say which win was really like transformational for you when it happened you were like? It, it was like a defining moment for the company. I think every win or every new sort of case study that we do, we really celebrate. We actually don't celebrate sign contract. We celebrate case studies. That means that the partner client that we're working with have sort of gone through the implementation with us and they're driving significant value from the platform. And so every one of those relationships is incredibly special. You have to say one word about the Series C. How do they make you feel hungry? Hungry. Ohh man, I don't know if I've said this publicly, but we'll got errands OPS at LaGuardia. He economist at Max. I might have made a bit of an impulse buy and I go, wait, what did you buy? I bought a Unicorn. And then I was like, oh, that's fine, let's put it in the office. And he's like, no, like the package arrived. It's like a very big Unicorn. And so it went 80 kilos. We pump it off because it was like a bathing thing and it took up like 1/2 the kitchen. And then he sent me a picture and he's 7 feet tall and he looked really tiny in the Unicorn. So now we added it to the meeting meeting room. So you can actually book the Unicorn if you want to have a great one-on-one, you can sort of sit down in the Unicorn. But we're gonna need to come up with like a different animal because we're going for something much, much bigger, right? So we'll, we'll buy planning.
