Powderless DTF is moving from pilot trials to real production. The concept is straightforward: replace hot-melt powder with a printable adhesive to achieve a softer hand, finer detail, and cleaner workflows. Across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, many OEMs and integrators are testing powderless alongside conventional setups, but success hinges on process, not hype. Key questions: wash fastness depends on adhesive penetration and a precise thermal profile; the oven matters more than ever (tight control and stable film temperature beat guesswork). In DTF, technique > chemistry—channel order, laydown, RIP limits, and press time/pressure can make or break results. Costs aren’t automatic wins: adhesive consumption varies with coverage and passes, while stricter curing can raise energy and maintenance. Also verify printer readiness (head layout, waveform/rheology compatibility, RIP control) and film selection (surface additives may contaminate the interface). The upside is compelling: reliable foil/laminate application, the possibility of sublimated metallics on polyester by printing adhesive directly onto foil with tuned sublimation inks, and a hand often comparable to good DTG. TPU is a completely different material once you vapour fuse it. Raw printed TPU is functional — but it’s often grainy, micro-porous and can look a bit “prototype”. Once you vapour smooth it, the entire behaviour of the surface changes: - dramatically lower surface friction - easier to clean - reduced microbial retention - higher tear resistance at the surface - better flex fatigue performance - far better cosmetic presentation It goes from “print” to “product”. For flexible seals, gaiters, grips, vibration isolators and impact buffers — vapour fused TPU is one of the most underrated end-use material/process combinations in additive. Solvent Balance: When a Small Change Saves Big on Consistency & Safety When process control depends on evaporation rate, even a few degrees — or a few carbons — can change everything. If you’ve ever had inks drying too fast on the roller — leading to color shift, streaking, or print variation halfway through a run — you already know how sensitive these processes can be. In a lot of cases, that kind of inconsistency points back to solvent balance. Hexane brings great solvency, but its evaporation rate can outpace the ink on warmer days or longer runs. Heptane, on the other hand, offers just a touch more working time — giving inks a chance to level, transfer, and release consistently across the press. Small changes can make big differences in production rhythm: smoother coverage, fewer adjustments, and more predictable results. And while the goal is usually process stability, operators often note that the air feels cleaner too. This isn’t unique to printing; you’ll see it in packaging, adhesive formulation, and industrial coatings — anywhere evap rates and control drive quality. Take a closer look at our new precision control system, OxyGuard, which uses state-of-the-art technology to rapidly achieve and maintain the optimal curing atmosphere for low odour, low migration production, siliconisation and other high performance curing applications. Ambient oxygen reduces the effectiveness of UV curing in many inks and coatings. The OxyGuard system can be used to overcome this, by controlling oxygen at the point of curing, exactly where the ink or coating is exposed to UV light. Inert gas is used to purge the curing chamber of oxygen and maintain a target oxygen level during production runs. OxyGuard features closed loop control, which automatically maintains this oxygen level to a customer set point (measured in parts per million), and ensures this set point is not exceeded. The OxyGuard system adapts the input of inert gas accordingly, regardless of machine running speed. Throughout the process, gas consumption is optimised for maximum efficiency. OxyGuard can be retrofitted on existing nitrogen systems and is compatible with all GEW curing lamps, whether UV Arc or LED. It is fully customisable to any number of configurations, making it suitable for a broad range of demanding applications... including coating and converting, silicone release and low migration work, excimer mattification and wood finishing.
