❌ Growth isn’t impressive if it's not sustainable. ❌ At Duolingo, we've always taken a thoughtful, steady approach to headcount growth. Because it’s the responsible thing to do. We don’t hire to hit aggressive numbers, to hoard talent, or just for the sake of growth. We want to do right by every person we bring on. Our aim is to have them stay with us for a long time and help contribute to our mission. Our headcount growth has been consistent and gradual by design. While others have seen sharp spikes and sudden drops, our team has grown like we build: with intention, care, and an eye toward the long view. It’s not flashy. It’s sustainable. And for us, that’s what matters. 💚
headcount growth should look like a staircase, not a rollercoaster
one more time for the people in the back 👏🏻
dangerous post... hope you never, EVER have a layoff 👀
Duolingo really said we hire people and actually keep them 📈 Other tech companies… take notes 😂
Are you guys trying to save face?
But didn’t your CEO say you’re an AI-first company? Or are you trying to ruffle some feathers, Duo?
I am assuming you don't count contractors you lay off, since that's what you all did when your CEO was all about AI first. Now you're backtracking and then posting this, making it seem like you all did something amazing. There's not even an X or Y axis on your graph to indicate the actual number of growth. It could be 5 head count per year for all we can tell.
