Tesla has recalled 12,963 vehicles due to a defect in a battery pack component that could lead to a sudden loss of drive power. Affected vehicles include certain 2025 Model 3 and 2026 Model Y vehicles could result in the driver losing the ability to accelerate the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Tesla unveiled the Cybercab — a robotaxi vehicle that lacked steering wheels and pedals — a little over a year ago at a splashy event on the Warner Bros. studio lot. The Cybercab, it was said, would be built using a new 'unboxed' manufacturing process, which would be cheaper, likely use simpler and larger cast parts, and have only two seats. And it would cost around $25,000 to $30,000. Ford Motor Company's CEO had an EV wake-up call after tearing apart cars from Tesla and its rivals in China. Jim Farley said the "shocking" realization of how far ahead Elon Musk's automaker and China's EV upstarts were pushed him to overhaul the company. "I was very humbled when we took apart the first Model 3 Tesla and started to take apart the Chinese vehicles. When we took them apart, it was shocking what we found," Farley said. Vertical integration builds strength. Owning the full stack drives simplicity, efficiency, and reliability. It is how smart companies design resilience. The Rivian Gen 2 R1S uses seven ECUs. Stellantis recently announced “cutting edge” tech that lets them cut their count from about one hundred twenty to sixty. You read that right. Some OEMs celebrate sixty ECUs while Rivian and Tesla deliver better customer experiences with single-digit ECU counts built in house. Stellantis still relies on dozens of vendors to build their sixty. The way cars were built in the past will not be the way they are built in the future. At Evolve Energy we think the same way about the technology that refuels them. EV charging is broken. Incentives are misaligned, hardware feels clunky, reliability is poor, and the tech stack is dated. Few are moving forward. The current market leaves plenty to be desired. Disrupt or get disrupted. No one is too big to fail. 💡
