Insert a transparent watermark

- [Instructor] You may have seen a watermark in a document, that is a clear label behind the text that's still across every document so that you can read it, but you can still read your text. It may say confidential or do not copy. You can do this in Word and you can even use your own picture and have it be light enough so that you can still see the text. To do this, change to the Design ribbon tab. Now, we haven't been here before, this Design tab. This is where you can change the way the document looks as a whole, such as changing the background color of the page that you're on. Most of the time you'll be keeping it to the normal default color. However, this is where you go if you want to change it. Next to that, however, is the watermark icon. Clicking on that will allow you to have the word confidential or do not copy on your document with the option to be placed either diagonally or horizontally. I'm going to place a diagonal do not copy across my document. Placing the watermark in the document, I'll be able to see it instantly and you'll notice that you can still see all of your text immediately above it. This watermark will automatically go across every page in your document. I also have the option to choose a custom watermark. Let's go into that menu. You can place your own text here. For example, property of Red30 or whatever you need. You can even have a picture. I'll select picture watermark. I'll click select picture, and then from a file, because it's on my PC. I'll select my image and choose insert and the key is to make sure there's a check mark next to washout. This is what's going to make the image lighter so that you can see the text above it. Now, you certainly don't have to use this option, but it will be easier to see the text and Word will do this for you automatically. I'll click okay and here's my logo. You'll see that it's much lighter than it is normally so that you can read all of this text above it, and again, just like before, it's automatically placed across every page. If at any time you decide you don't want a watermark, remember we're here in the Design ribbon tab. Click watermark again and choose remove watermark.
