- Good bosses change their mind. Business is evolving rapidly, especially in the face of new technology. Change is normal. Constant chaos because your leader didn't think through the directions that they were giving is not normal. If you are working for a leader who is constantly changing their mind, your approach is going to be twofold. First, proactive. Clear expectations are imperative here. Define what they are looking for, by when, and why. Understanding the "why" piece, the context, will enable you to proactively point out potential hangups or alternative options, instead of those coming to the surface later. For important things, get those expectations in writing, even if it's you sending some recap email after a conversation with your manager. Paper trails are power.
