- Oftentimes people think RSVP only means yes, I'm going to attend. But did you know that you should RSVP even if you aren't attending? RSVP stands for respond if you please, which means the host is actually asking for a response, be it yes, no, or maybe. RSVPing is an important part of etiquette because it shows respect and consideration to the host. Money, time, and resources go into planning meetings and events, so hosts are really appreciative of attendants who respond. So when you receive a calendar request or event invite, RSVP as soon as you know your attendance status. If you're unsure, let the host know you're tentative and reply when you are certain. When RSVPing, communicate with the host well in advance if you have to leave early or arrive late. The host may share with you whether this is permitted and give you special instructions if so.
