- We are there to help the team have the conversations it needs at the time it happens. Of course, we've agreed a broad structure with the team leader and some desired outcomes, but we need to pass as much control as possible to the team itself. After all, the habits that they learn now, are what are going to give them capability for when you're not there. So two core things we do are, firstly, we help them to maintain focus. Often this is about bringing them back to the purpose. And purpose has got three layers. There's the purpose of the organization or the system in which the team is nested. Then there's the purpose of the team itself. What's it there for? And then there's the purpose of this conversation. Secondly, we help them stop and look in at themselves. You'll frequently pause proceedings to ask, "So what's going on in the room right now?" You're giving them the valuable gift of collective self-awareness.
