- [Instructor] As you know, according to Scrum principles, a cross-functional team includes all the skills necessary to deliver a valuable increment each sprint. Ideally, the developers on the team possess the collective expertise to complete all aspects of the work. However, in some cases, this may not be practical, especially when specialized skills are only needed for short periods or on an intermittent basis. In such instances, scrum does not prohibit the use of shared or external resources. While not part of the Scrum team, these individuals can contribute to specific product backlog items, or PBIs, when their expertise is required. For example, a team developing a customer-facing web application may need a security engineer early in product development to assist with secure design practices.
