Salesforce setup
- [Speaker] Now let's go ahead and talk about the Salesforce setup. So I'm currently on the homepage, and this is usually what you'll see when you log into Salesforce as an end-user and possibly even as an admin. You'll see this, however, this is the, what I like to call the front-end of Salesforce where people are doing their day-to-day jobs, they are contacting with customers about their opportunities. You're contacting leads to get more people onto your opportunities. You are dealing with cases, et cetera. So now when you're wanting to set up maybe a new object or group of data, or you're wanting to maybe make some tweaks to the fields that you see, you're going to do this in the setup of Salesforce. So to get to setup, you go into the top-right corner and click the gear icon. There are a few different options that we have here, we can go to setup, and that is just the regular setup for most sales and other clouds. And then you have service setups. This is where you can go and set up anything dealing with the service cloud. Then you have the developer console if you are going to go to the very back-end of Salesforce and start writing things in code. And then you can edit the current page with a Lightning Page editor, which we'll go into later. But let's go into the setup and I want to show you a few things about getting around in here. So you'll see here, we have the quick find box. And now this is where you would go ahead and search for different things that you need to find as it pertains to changing up settings within Salesforce. So let's say if we wanted to go and change up some permission sets or add some permission sets, we would type in permission set and it'll update as you keep going. But you can see that we have two sets. We've got the permission sets, permission set groups, and custom permissions. So you can go ahead and click on it or double click on it, might take a few tries, but now it's taking us to see our permission sets. So that's a little bit about the click find. You can also go in here and we've got little toggles if you just want to go searching. So under users, we have all these different things that you can go in and look at, and then anything other data and you can go in and explore in there, which I highly recommend that you do. Another thing I want to talk about is the object manager. So let's go here and we'll talk about what an object is later on in the course when it goes to data modeling. But an object is just where we store our main group of data. As you can see here, we have different objects like account that we've talked about. And you can go in here and we can look at the different fields and the different customizations that we've made to the accounts or the things that we want to store about our accounts. And if we go back to object manager, we can also go here to the quick find and search for, let's say, opportunities. And you can go to opportunity and we can look and see the fields and relationships. Alright, one last thing I do want to talk about is the schema builder. So you can go to Schema Builder up here, or we can go back to the quick find and type in schema builder and go to it. So a schema builder is essentially just a way to see the entire backend of Salesforce, if you like. Down here on the bottom, right-hand corner, you can see this is all of our, all these different boxes are the different objects within Salesforce. This just allows us to visualize how the different objects relate to one another, what you can find on the different objects. And there are certain objects that are going to be very connected to other objects. As you can see, we have an object called order, and it is really connected to a lot of other ones. And probably one of the most connected ones is the account object as well. You can clear all objects here, so then you have a blank slate. And then you can also select the objects that you want to look for. So if we only wanted to look at accounts and opportunities, we could do that here. Let me scroll and try and bring these up next to each other. Here we go. We can visualize the relationship between there and if we scroll in, we can see the different fields on the opportunity on this side and also on the account over here. We can do a few other things. We can create more objects, we can create more fields, which it's good to know that this exists for the exam. It may or may not be mentioned on the exam. And, of course, we'll go into the data model later. But it's good to know that we can create a lot of different things here in the Schema Builder and in the Object Manager.
