- [Instructor] You'll be hearing me say CRISP-DM in this course. So let's take a moment to explain what it is and how it relates to our two main topics, the essential elements and the nine laws of data mining. CRISP-DM Is an acronym. The cross-industry standard process for data mining was written by a consortium of companies and dozens of practitioners over a three-year period in the late nineties. the circular diagram has become somewhat famous, but it's more than that. It's a detailed guide, a how to of data mining, involving six phases, 24 tasks, and lots of detailed advice in a document running several dozen pages. Tom Khabaza was one of several lead authors, and we'll encounter his ideas again in the final section where we discuss what you can think of as a companion piece to CRISP-DM.
