Expanding the canvas size

Expanding the canvas size

One of the lesser-known features when using the Crop tool is its ability to extend the canvas. I'll tap C in order to select the Crop tool, and if there are values in the options bar, we can choose to clear them, or we could right-click or control-click on Mac and reset the tool. Then I'll tap Escape, and when I drag out the crop marquee, well, I can't extend it past the current canvas area until I release the cursor, and then we can drag the anchor point in order to extend the canvas. I'll use command minus in order to zoom out and just extend this on all sides. Now, because I have the delete cropped pixels enabled, I'm only able to fill with the background color, which is white in this case, or generative expand or content aware fill. If I wanted to fill with transparency, then I need to uncheck the delete cropped pixels. And then I can choose transparency or generative expand or content aware fill. All right, let's go ahead and extend the canvas and fill that with transparency…
