Combining Multiply and Screen blend modes for translucency
- [Instructor] We've seen how the multiply blend mode will neutralize white and how the screen blend mode will neutralize black. In this example, I want to combine those two blend modes so that we can mask glass or a transparent object and maintain its translucency. So here is my image of a glass. The first thing I'm going to do is put a vector mask around it. I'm using a vector mask because it's a manmade object with clearly defined edges. I already have a path prepared, so I'll just turn that on. Come to my Layers panel. Select the glass layer. Command or control click on the Add Mask icon. So that now has a vector mask around it. And you can see that the glass is not transparent, it's very murky. We want to be able to see through it to the texture and color of the wall behind. I need two copies of this layer, so I'll duplicate it. Command or control J. And I now have one more mask that I need. So I'll select these…
