- There is the type of innocence that relates to youth and another connected to the provincial and unpretentious. Something from a previous era appears innocent and naive to us compared to our own time. We comment on these. "Isn't it funny that someone thought "this was sophisticated, or, "people sure were easily entertained." Innocence in this regard has the same qualities that we assign to children. The item is innocent because they aren't connected to the real world, sorry about the air quotes. An innocent item comes from a time before ours, when we believe life was easier and less complicated.
