- Now that you're familiar with the platform's overview, let's dive deeper into Tableau, starting with its foundational tools, Tableau Desktop, and its accompanying web authoring experience. Tableau Desktop enhances your analytics experience through four main functionalities: data connections, data analysis, sharing insights, and innovation. Let's unpack each of these. The core of any analytics tool is the ability to seamlessly connect to data sources, be they a cloud warehouse, an API, or a simple file on your laptop. Tableau supports a comprehensive array of databases and file types, and has recently expanded to include custom connectors and templates through the Tableau Exchange.
