- The most important thing to recognize when it comes to laptop security is that whether someone's looking over your shoulder to read what it says on your screen or trying to steal the device itself, your laptop and the data it contains is a valuable resource that needs to be protected. Stolen laptops cost money and time to replace. Beyond that, a hacker with physical access to your laptop can use it to launch more sophisticated attacks on your company as a whole. Here are a few tips that you can use to protect the security of your laptop. Number one, don't leave your laptop unattended. If you're working at an airport, in a hotel, at an expo booth, in a conference room, or at a coffee shop, keep it with you at all times.
