Pressing pause on biological time, for those who need it most.

About us

We are building reversible cryopreservation technology to solve the organ procurement and matching problem. Cryopreservation is already essential to modern medicine — powering IVF and life-saving stem cell therapies. Now, we’re extending this technology to whole human organs — transforming hours of viability into weeks, or months, however long is necessary — so that no donated organ is lost to logistics, and no patient dies waiting. By solving this immediate need, we de-risk and build the foundation for what comes next: whole-body reversible cryopreservation. We're pausing molecular motion to give patients a bridge to future cures.

  • We partnered with the exceptional team at basement.studio to create a new brand and website for Until. We’re so excited to finally share what we’ve been working on: ✨ https://www.untillabs.com/ ✨ For our homepage, we hoped show that reversible cryopreservation is, at its core, a molecular physics problem. basement.studio nailed this 💪 You can zoom into the molecular landscape of a person, observe the scene as the temperature gets cooler and motion slows to a complete halt. Ice is the enemy. Everything we engineer is in service of preventing it. And lastly, the whole point of this endeavor, is to have more time with our loved ones, more peaceful afternoons, more picnics in the sun, more precious moments. We're building for people we love. We also wanted our new site to highlight the people making reversible cryopreservation real. Our team is full of rockstar scientists and engineers and operational magicians. Their commitment, their late-night sprints, their creative investment, and rigor are what moves this technology forward. To our team, thank you ❤️ They are working at one of the most ambitious intersections of biology, physics, and hardware. If that sounds like your kind of challenge, we’re hiring. https://lnkd.in/gzi8Jav3 We couldn't have asked for a better collaborator than basement.studio. They developed a brand that feels warm, captures our soul, and celebrates our incredible team, Thank you so much! :) <3

  • We recently partnered with the remarkable folks at Card79 to create visual walk-through of what reversibly cryopreserving a kidney might look like. What you’re watching: A donated kidney is perfused with cryoprotectants, replacing the water in its cells, and nanoparticles, for later rewarming. The organ is cooled below –130°C, pausing molecular motion, the organ can safely stay at this temperature indefinitely, until the right recipient is ready. This rendition of time passing as the organ stays safely preserved in the a biobank is our favorite scene ❤️ When a perfect match is found, the organ is gently rewarmed in an alternating magnetic field coil, cryoprotectants and nanoparticles are flushed out, blood is re-perfused, health and vitals are assessed, and the organ is ready for transplant, set to save a life. Until’s mission is simple: Pause molecular motion to give patients more time. We aim to extend viable preservation from hours to weeks — until matching, transport, and transplant are no longer a race against the clock. Card79 went above and beyond. Thank you for bringing rigor, care, and beauty to this collaboration. You took an incredibly complex process and created a visual distillation that is intuitive and clear 👏

Check out our CEO Laura Deming's conversation with Mario Gabriele on The Generalist Podcast! Their discussion traverses many things: the legitimization of stigmatized research areas in health, why she founded Until, our approach to building reversible cryopreservation tech for donor organs, meeting our CSO and co-founder Hunter Davis, embracing weirdness, and much more 🙂 It is a deep and nuanced dive. Thank you Mario for such thoughtful questions and explorations 💕

    Founder of The Generalist

This week's guest on The Generalist Podcast is Laura Deming, CEO & co-founder of Until. Biological Time Travel: How Cryopreservation Could Transform Medicine From child prodigy to longevity pioneer, Laura Deming has spent her life chasing time. At eight, she became obsessed with aging. At eleven, she joined Cynthia Kenyon's pioneering longevity lab. At seventeen, she launched The Longevity Fund—one of the first venture firms dedicated to extending healthspan. Now, as co-founder of Until, she's tackling her boldest challenge: developing reversible cryopreservation. By achieving vitrification (turning tissue into glass instead of ice), Until aims to make organ preservation and medical hibernation a reality. Listen now: • YouTube: https://lnkd.in/eqgjB_CT • Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eA9YkuJB • Apple: https://lnkd.in/eKqWRmPN A big thank you to the incredible sponsors that make the podcast possible: ✨ GoFundMe Giving Funds – One Account. Zero Hassle: https://lnkd.in/epgdNTEK ✨ Brex – The banking solution for startups: https://www.brex.com/mario ✨ Persona – Trusted identity verification for any use case: https://lnkd.in/efPvXZ9u We explore: → Why longevity was once stigmatized, and what changed to make it one of the most credible fields in biotech today → Why Until’s approach focuses on preserving the living, not the dead → The physics and biological challenges of scaling reversible cryopreservation from embryos to human-sized organs → How vitrification is making cryopreservation possible → How this breakthrough could transform organ transplantation by eliminating time constraints (and eventually enable medical hibernation) → The philosophical and social implications of being able to “pause” life and effectively time travel into the future → How growing up homeschooled in New Zealand shaped Laura’s unconventional way of thinking → The story of how legendary biologist Cynthia Kenyon invited 11-year-old Laura into her lab, sparking her lifelong obsession with aging → How she learned to embrace her weirdness and trust it as her creative superpower

We’ve raised $100M+ to date, we are developing reversible cryopreservation for patients in need of donor organs, and we are hiring 🫀🎉🚀 We’ve closed a $58M Series A, led by Founders Fund with Lux Capital and Field Ventures joining, to support development of an organ cryopreservation product. In the near term, this will help transplant patients and surgeons access the organs they need. This also serves as an important step in our long-term roadmap to medical hibernation. The timing of an organ donation is critical. Most organs remain viable for only hours after procurement, 4–12 for hearts, lungs, and livers; 24–36 for kidneys. That narrow window means patients live tethered to hospitals, and thousands of organs are lost every year due to logistics.  We’re changing that. We’re building reversible cryopreservation so that every donated organ with the potential to save a life, can. We’re building the whole stack: • novel cryoprotectants • custom cooling & rewarming hardware • perfusion & surgical protocols • molecular modeling engines • magnetic rewarming systems We started in neural slices. Now we’re preserving preclinical model organs. This work lays the foundations for our long term vision of whole-body medical hibernation technology. You can read our updated Problem Statement and Roadmap here: https://lnkd.in/gV9cqiUS 👀 Over the last year, we’ve built a CPA discovery engine, designed a custom electromagnet, and iterated cooling protocols to reduce time-to-glass. We’re now testing in large animal organs — optimizing for quality post cryopreservation. Our lab traverses disciplines, a single day at Until might span simulating molecular dynamics, running benchtop assays with high throughput liquid-handling robots, mapping vasculature, exploring the physics of high voltage electromagnets, or designing topologically optimized heat exchangers. Our perfusion experts and molecular biologists work in close collaboration with our hardware engineers and physicists. The team is diverse by design because the problem is diverse by nature. We move between theory and practice, from first principles to functional prototypes. If you’re energized by deep technical problems, mission-driven science, and rendering technology to extend human well-being, join us. And of course, the fundraise would not have been possible without our incredible team, thank you ❤️
