  • CX leaders often hit resistance instead of momentum when they share customer feedback. Teams question the data or assume problems are already solved – turning valuable insights into stalled action. In her latest blog, Material’s Nicole Hauptman shares seven practical tips to break through that barrier. We were thrilled to host 50 senior women leaders across the investing industry for the Women of Apax Digital’s annual breakfast series at The Whitby Hotel in New York.   We were honored to welcome Laila Worrell, CEO of Material and a longtime friend of the Apax family, as our guest speaker. Laila has served on the boards of Wizeline (an Apax Digital Fund portfolio company), Moelis & Company, VISTRA, and Harvard Business School, among others. She shared thoughtful insights from her extensive operating experience, from authentic leadership to driving value creation in PE-backed businesses.   The event brought together investors to exchange ideas, deepen relationships, and strengthen networks across the investing ecosystem. It was a powerful reminder of the strength of this community and the importance of building connections that lift and inspire. Thank you to everyone who joined us — we look forward to continuing the conversation next year. Bettina Lu, Molly Reiner & Claire Cicciarello

  • In the Next Era of Insights Report – published alongside #TMRE 2025 – Material’s Oscar Yuan unpacks a shifting industry landscape and highlights a key truth: data alone isn’t enough. Turning insight into impact requires human intelligence and nuanced storytelling. “This last mile – translating the insights into the stories that travel and influence, is a uniquely human task,” Oscar writes. “This is where the focus of our industry will shift – from data collection and analysis to storytelling and influence.” Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ge278p-h

  • In the kitchen, some recipes are strict; others offer room for improvisation. The same goes for user experience research. Where and how AI can add the most value to your UXR program depends on its inputs, constraints, needs and objectives. Material’s Phil Heuring offers a new framework for applying AI in UXR, beginning with a simple question: is your research closer to baking, or cooking? Are we sacrificing human connection in pursuit of the completely frictionless customer experience? In his latest Fast Company Impact Council article, Material’s Oscar Yuan challenges the dominant view of friction as something to be “removed at all costs.” “Friction, in any of its many forms, can be a positive force – for teaching, adding value, creating deeper engagement and fostering human connection,” he writes. Explore Oscar's perspectives on a more nuanced, strategic approach to friction: https://lnkd.in/dgPXFKi6

  • What makes a rideshare experience truly five-star? It’s not just one thing. The factors are complex, interconnected... and often missed by conventional analytics. This week at the annual BayesiaLabs Conference, Material's Praveen Sharma and Kourosh Arianejad and Lyft’s Sally Sadosky will discuss how Bayesian network modeling – a powerful approach that structures complexity to reveal key relationships – helped Lyft prioritize improvements for both riders and drivers.
