Our employees’ desire to have purpose-filled days doesn’t stop when they log off. That’s why we encourage them to take one paid Personal Impact Day per quarter for whatever they find meaningful, whether it’s volunteering, wellness, civic engagement or something else. Clinical trainer Mary Beth Simon found deep meaning on a recent field trip with her mother to Newfields Art Museum in Indianapolis, along with other residents of her mother’s skilled nursing facility. Her mother, once an avid watercolor painter and a set designer for a local community chorus, moved into the facility last year, due in part to a dementia diagnosis. The visit had the effect Mary Beth had hoped for. Her mother’s inner artist came alive, as she eagerly studied the works and commented on their techniques, from pointillism to classical. Later, she was captivated by a special exhibit that projected a video across the ceiling, mimicking swirls of paint in constant motion. “It was so much fun to see that side of her again.”

Cancer care navigation isn’t simply about showing people the way through the health care system. It should also be about understanding their unique circumstances — medical, financial, social and more — and working with them to find their path. Appearing recently on the Empowered Patient Podcast, Evolent’s Vishnukamal Golla explains how deeper personalization and technology-enabled “precision navigation” is the future. "Too often, survivorship care remains fragmented and reactive. When the safety net of specialist care is removed, survivors are left to manage the physical after-effects like fatigue, pain, cognitive changes, and the mental toll: fear of recurrence, loss of identity, and the invisible scars (as well as the visible) that cancer leaves behind. This is a time when support is needed most, yet the system too often leaves survivors to 'self-manage' without adequate resources or guidance." Keen insights from Paul Landau, CEO and Founder of Careology, about the under-appreciated realities of life after cancer treatment. We’re proud to partner with Careology to deliver a comprehensive care navigation program that delivers support and resources at all phases of the cancer journey, including survivorship.
