Glacier View Lodge didn’t just adopt new technology: they embraced a vision for safer, more connected care. We’re grateful for partners who share our commitment to resident safety and who see technology as a tool for positive change.

  • Every second counts in fall prevention. When falls happen, they happen quickly (typically within 20–30 seconds of the patient getting out of bed). But traditional fall prevention systems can actually get in the way of rapid response. ➡️ Bed pad sensors can trigger false positives that desensitize staff to true alarms ➡️ Bed pad sensors don’t always go off when patients are actually trying to get out of bed ➡️ Phone notifications can go unnoticed when clinicians are busy caring for other patients At one healthcare facility, we deployed bedside sensors as a way to replace unreliable bed pad sensors. We also adjusted the alert method, moving from mobile notifications to unit-wide lighting changes and visual display boards. When a fall risk alarm sounds, a blue light blinks outside the affected room. Meanwhile, lights outside all other patient rooms shift from warm white to cool white. Digital marquees placed around the floor display the room number and sounded a distinct tone to get staff attention. This creates instant visual and audible awareness for any staff member on the floor, not just the caregiver assigned to a given patient. The sensor and notification design changes had a major impact. During the pilot stage, the special care unit recorded zero falls. Not a single one. The previous month, they had recorded 5. Want to discover how we brought this system to life? Learn More Below ⬇️

  • Reducing False Alarms. Improving Resident Comfort. With Glacier View Lodge we found that by adding a slight delay to the sensor alerts, we could reduce almost all false alarms.     Fall prevention systems often fail because they are not designed around real clinical environments.   At one healthcare facility, our team spent fourteen days on site testing, adjusting, and validating a new environmental alert system. We optimized the placement of sensors, refined the sensitivity settings, and worked closely with front line staff to ensure alerts were clear, easy to understand, and aligned with their daily workflow.   The outcome was significant.   • “If I’m with a patient and my hands are dirty and my phone is ringing, I don’t want to touch the phone.” This feedback from staff at a healthcare facility showed us why phone-based fall alerts often fall short. Staff can’t immediately check and respond to notifications when they’re busy caring for another patient. Moving from device notifications to unit-wide visual and audible alerts changed everything.
