🔎 Carbon Removal Capacity in Focus: Will supply meet 2030 needs? 🌍 While the near‑term focus for 2030 is drastic emissions reduction, about 45% below 2010 levels, to stay on track for 1.5°C, the amount of carbon removal required is projected to range from 1 to 5 gigatonnes of CO₂ per year by 2030, scaling up to potentially 10 GtCO₂ annually by 2050. (source: World Economic Forum - Carbon Dioxide Removal: Best-Practice Guidelines whitepaper, 2024) But how close is the durable CDR market to being able to support this trajectory? 🌳 Supplier capacity is growing, yet still far from what mid-century milestones require. The coming years will determine how quickly supply can scale, how many new buyers enter the market, and whether financing, policy, and infrastructure can keep up. 📊 Earlier this week, we launched a global CDR capacity survey with the State of Carbon Dioxide Removal, to build the clearest view yet of current and projected supply across methods, regions, and maturity levels. Take part here: https://lnkd.in/gMuyYBAQ With that in mind: ❓ Based on current state and evolution of the CDR market, how closely do you feel that supplier capacity will be in place with the milestone needs for net-zero by 2030? 🔹 Capacity greatly exceeds 🔹 Capacity moderately exceeds 🔹 Capacity moderately under 🔹 Capacity greatly under 🔗 Check out our recent blog post to learn more about the survey (link in the comments below). • 70% of CDR suppliers expect to raise funding in the next 6 month! Let's take a closer look 👀 🆕 We recently released "The State of Durable CDR Financing" with Planet2050, highlighting one of the key findings from the survey: the urgency with which suppliers need capital. The findings from a survey of 125 durable CDR suppliers and project developers reveal that: 📅 70% of suppliers expect to raise funding within the next 6 months ⏳ 43% are seeking to close a round in the next 3 months ⏲ Only 9% expect to wait beyond 12 months For comparison, in our January 2025 CDR Market Survey with Sylvera, 64% of companies planned to raise funding at any point during 2025. The shift suggests both tightening financing conditions and greater near-term pressure on suppliers. This growing urgency aligns with broader market signals: reduced government support (especially for DACCS in the U.S.), slower-than-expected fundraising cycles, and recent supplier closures. As we move into the final weeks of the financial year, typically a quieter period for dealmaking, the window for many teams is even narrower. 📊 To explore the full analysis, including the broader financing challenges and practical guidance for suppliers, investors, buyers, and policymakers, read the blog version here: https://lnkd.in/gQ4KDyCF 📄 A more comprehensive version of the report is also available for download through the blog.

  • 🚨 Huge CDR Deal Alert! 🚨 🤝 Reverion has signed an offtake agreement with Frontier for 96,000 tonnes of CDR in a deal worth $41 million. Reverion is a German BECCS company that captures and permanently stores CO₂ from biogas while generating clean electricity through solid oxide fuel cells. 📈 The agreement will help Reverion scale its technology, which currently converts biogas to electricity at 74% efficiency while capturing carbon for permanent storage. ⬇ As per the deal, the tonnes will be removed between 2027 and 2030. 🚀 This is Reverion's first ever CDR deal ever recorded. 🆕 At 27th, Reverion is the latest entrant on the CDR.fyi Suppliers Leaderboard. ⬆ With over 1.76M tonnes in purchases so far, Frontier continues to stand at 2nd on the CDR.fyi Purchasers Leaderboard. 🔗 To learn more, read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/eSUt4tHw ✅ Interested in tracking durable CDR market activity? 🌏 The Global South could become a global CDR powerhouse - Oxford University’s new paper explains how. Authored by Sebastian Manhart and Raphaël Cario, published by the TIDE Centre, University of Oxford, this working paper highlights the Global South’s overlooked industrialisation opportunity in durable carbon dioxide removal. With >70% of global biomass, >65% of storage potential, abundant low-cost renewable energy, and fast-growing skilled labour markets, the Global South is structurally positioned to lead. The economic potential: 3-9.5 million jobs and $180-600 billion per year by 2050. Following a global analysis, the paper features three case studies already showing impact:  🇧🇴 Exomad Green (Bolivia) - world’s largest durable CDR supplier (by deliveries)  🇰🇪 NetZero (Brazil) - global capital + local workforce model  🇰🇪 Octavia Carbon(Kenya) - scaling DACCS in Africa As COP concludes, this paper makes clear that CDR is primarily an economic development opportunity, and offers policymakers a framework for governments to build it into industrial policy. 🔗 Check out the full paper here:  https://lnkd.in/dVWeGvbQ
