#OTD in #ComputingHistory in 1959, IBM delivered the IBM 7090, one of the earliest fully transistorized mainframe computers. Built as the successor to the vacuum-tube based 709, the 7090 offered dramatic improvements in speed, reliability, and power consumption. It quickly became a workhorse for science, engineering, and national research. From space-flight calculations for NASA to early work in artificial intelligence and large-scale simulation, the 7090 helped usher in the modern era of high-performance computing. What an interesting, important project at university Cal Poly Humboldt, located on the ancestral homeland of the Wiyot people. Happy to see a university continuing to build strong relationships with local Indigenous communities and build a stronger presence in engineering, computing, science, and academia in general. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth
𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 This 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, we celebrate the power of Indigenous knowledge to inspire sustainable innovation in design, engineering, and technology. At Cal Poly Humboldt, located on the ancestral homeland of the Wiyot people, the university continues to build strong relationships with local Indigenous communities. AC Martin’s design for the new 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 embodies this spirit of collaboration. The 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 structure will connect students to the local landscape and includes an 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 created in partnership with the 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 & 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗜𝗡𝗥𝗦𝗘𝗣). By integrating 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 (𝗧𝗘𝗞) with Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine (𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠𝗠) education, the project reflects how innovation and tradition can advance together.
