Set up a "Rewarded ad" user choice

Example of a Rewarded ad shown after the user chose to watch from the Offerwall in exchange for access to site content

The "Rewarded ad" user choice on your Offerwall message gives site visitors the option to watch a short ad and, after successfully completing this task, earn access to your site content. Offerwall implements the rewarded ad format on your behalf, so that no code changes are needed on your site.

To get started, you need to select an ad unit that will be used to serve rewarded ads. Ad Manager automatically creates an ad unit when you create an Offerwall message, or you can manually create and select your own. This dedicated ad unit allows you to fully control the ads that will be served. You won't need to edit any of your site's code.

After the Offerwall message is published, the message will rely on the selected ad unit to fetch and render a rewarded ad.

How you can manage your Offerwall

You can control exactly where, when, and how your Offerwall message is shown to visitors on your site. Use URL inclusions and exclusions to target and customize your Offerwall messages so that they only appear on specific pages of your site.

Enable the rewarded ad choice and select an ad unit

To display rewarded ads for your Offerwall, complete the following steps to confirm the "Rewarded ad" user choice and select an ad unit to the Offerwall message:

  1. Click Privacy & messaging.
  2. Click Manage on the Offerwall message type card.
  3. Create a new Offerwall or click the name of an existing Offerwall message in the list.
  4. In the "User choices" section, turn on the Rewarded ad user choice if it's not already.
  5. Select the ad unit to serve rewarded ads:
    • Auto: To select and edit the auto-created ad unit, click the ad unit that includes "(auto-created)" and choose Edit to update the parent ad unit or the name of the ad unit.
    • Manual: You can manually create an ad unit and configure an ad unit to serve rewarded ads for your Offerwall. It's helpful to include the location in the ad unit name, such as "Rewarded Offerwall Ad Unit".
You don't need to add a tag on your site for this ad unit, and you don't need to implement the rewarded web API on your site. Offerwall handles this in a codeless way.
  6. Click Manage and configure an entitlement that determines how long to give users site access upon viewing an ad.
  7. Click Publish to publish the updated Offerwall message.

To view your rewarded ad user choice on the Offerwall as it displays to users, test your Offerwall.

Your Offerwall message with the rewarded ad choice enabled will only be displayed if a rewarded ad is available. If no rewarded ad is available, for example due to insufficient demand for rewarded ads in your account, the message won't render.

Troubleshoot common rewarded ad user choice issues

How do I fix insufficient rewarded ad demand?
An Offerwall with the rewarded ad user choice enabled will only be displayed when there is a rewarded ad available. If no rewarded ad is available, the Offerwall will not be shown during that page view. The Offerwall will instead be shown on the next page view that occurs while a rewarded ad is available.
Potential reasons for low fill rates, which might impact how often Offerwall is shown, include the following settings:

Blocking video ads (or other protections)

Rewarded ads can include both video or display ads, so protections configured to block all video ads may inadvertently block rewarded video ads. If you would like to block video ads on your inventory, but allow them for a specific Offerwall rewarded ad unit, create an exclusion on the Offerwall rewarded ad unit.

Selecting "Only protect specified inventory" with an exclusion on the ad unit will protect everything except the ad unit.

Setting a very high price floor for your rewarded ad unit

High price floors on the rewarded ad unit may lead to fewer rewarded ads being available for the Offerwall. To configure price floors, click Inventory, and then Pricing rules. We suggest choosing the "Let Google optimize for me" option, setting no price floor, or setting a lower price floor. Review "Unified pricing rules" to learn more about the available options.

How do I fix rewarded ad units that are incorrectly configured?
The Offerwall won't show if the rewarded ad unit isn't properly configured. When site visitors select the "Rewarded ad" user choice in the Offerwall, the settings applied to the selected rewarded ad unit are used to display the rewarded ad.
