Are your DMs getting the silent treatment? Use these 7 scripts to spark meaningful conversations. The bottom line is: Our career depends on building relationships. And LinkedIn is a great place to start doing that. But the problem is that none of us are taught the right way to send emails and DMs. So we are left on read. But I want to change that and share scripts that I have been taught and developed with you. Check the carousel from a breakdown of 7 powerful DM scripts -- from sending connection requests to asking for an informational interview or coffee chat. If you have a situation I haven't covered, or want me to provide feedback on your script, then ask in the comments below. --- PS. If you want to DM me instead, just know that I am running behind on them, and it can be a few weeks (going on vacation soon) before I can respond. PPS. I got my training from one of my mentors, Ramit Sethi. He has these 10 email commandments that are eye-opening: 1/ Most emails to busy people should have one simple purpose: To allow the busy person to reply and say, “Yes.” Nothing more. 2/ When emailing, if you want something from someone, you are lower-status. 3/ Before you ask a busy person a question, make sure they haven’t answered it elsewhere. 4/ Most people stay in touch too little, not too much. Busy people get a lot of email. The marginal cost of each additional email is minimal. When in doubt, send it. But make it good! 5/ Proofread your email. Sloppy writing can destroy an otherwise perfect email. 6/ Always convert times to the busy person’s time zone. 7/ It’s great to send a birthday card or note, but don’t consider it a business check-in: 8/ Think twice before sending an email with multiple questions in it. 9/ When following up with someone after a meeting, let them know how you’ve applied their advice. 10/ A good email is just the start. You still have to follow through.

This is super helpful Varun, thanks for putting it out here :)

Proofreading is still underrated somehow and I've seen the detriment of what a typo-packed email can have. This year I wanted to reconnect with someone I did a collaboration with back in 2020, hit the send button, and then I noticed my email had 2 typos in it! it's so embarrassing and frustrating but the blame is all on me for not double checking. We are not exempted from doing this so learn from this lesson and ALWAYS PROOFREAD!!!

Great suggestions on how to write terrific DMs (emails and LI messages.) I particularly like the message about not asking too many questions at once. It's tempting to try to cover a lot of ground, but it will make some people's brains explode and they won't respond.

Wow, thank you very much for these scripts. I’ve been wondering how to “properly” reach out to new people or potential recruiters online. Your post is very helpful 😊

Great frameworks for cold reach-outs Varun!

Varun Negandhi, what makes this so powerful is the template approach you've provided - anyone can easily fill in the blanks with their own details. I especially liked your tip to follow-up. It's very easy to give up when we initially don't get a response. But the key to sealing the deal is being persistent (while remaining professional).

Love how these are personalized and give different options for different situations :) Varun

These are very amazing scripts. Thank you for putting this together for everyone, Varun!
